So my buddy broke his skag off his motor today. Anybody know where he could get it fixed?

Sidenote= he doesn't have the missing piece.

There is a prop place in bismarck that fixes skags. I believe it's Bismarck prop works

If its broke off next to the gear case then take it in to have a new one installed. There are tons of different options for bolt on skeg protectors he might get by with depending on how much is missing, again if broken off next to the gear case then one will need a new one welded on, there needs to be over half left for the protectors to mount to.

I broke a pretty good sized chunk out of my skeg and for 3 seasons the SS Skeg-Guard I bolted on has done it's job. 0 difference in performance of my boat in either speed or handling. If you've got an inch or so left for the full length of the gear-case you should be fine with a bolt on. Up and running again in ~15min.

We are in Minot but I don't believe Gilbertson does skag repairs. He broke off probably 2/3's of the skag so a guard may do the trick. Thanks guys!

It'll take most folks longer to find the right size drill bit than the rest of the fix.

Third year on a Skeg-guard. Had two inches at most left on the skeg.

How did your buddy break the skeg? What lake or river?

First trip out with a new to him boat. Not used to a roller trailer and it rolled back off the trailer on him. He wasn't sure but it must have hit the ramp. He didn't realize it till he was strapping the boat down, couldn't find the missing piece at the ramp.

Wade at Dakota Tackle ordered me in the guard I needed for mine. Had it two days later. Totally the way to go

First trip?! That kind of thing is THE WORST. Aaarrrgg

1st trip with my 1st boat I forgot to open up the breather valve on the gas tank.

1st trip with my 2nd boat I'm throttling up the 125HP Merc 2+2, get to 1800rpm and the 2nd 2 cylinders engage. Buddy up front is installing a dip of chew as the motor makes the switch to 4 cylinder power, buddy next to me takes some wayward Skoal flakes to the eyeball.

1st trip w/my 3rd boat. I'd pulled the rear floor out before ever getting it wet so I could install the electronics the way I wanted. I get everything "just-so". Upon re-install of the rear floor, I put the hydraulic steering hoses on the wrong side of a brace and to compound the mistake, unknowingly run a decking screw through the hose. Pretty-much wide open on Sak (low 40's) and the boat goes into a full-lock turn (can't remember if it was right or left) and just about throws my partner and I out of the boat. The following Monday back @ the dealership was quite the embarrassment.

Quirky thing, same guy was along for all 3 "maiden voyages" and hasn't died, tried to kill me, nor even refused to fish with me. Can't cypher if he's forgiving or just an idiot.

When I boat my boat it was missing about 2/3 of the skeg so I put the mentioned skeg guard on. A couple years later I hit a stump and broke that skeg guard off but it saved my prop. Replaced it and good to go.

My maiden voyage with my current boat, before launching I put the plug in and noticed it was pretty loose so I adjusted it until it was tight and thought I was good to go. Launch boat, sit in the marina at the DL casino for about 20 minutes playing with electronics, idle out of marina and go to punch it and zero power. Instantly recognize that heavy feeling and I turn around to see about 3" of water across the back of the floor. Start freaking out because I personally put the plug in so where the hell could the water be coming from?!? Turns out I put the plug in the livewell drain hole which is right next to the drain hole for the hull. One of the dumber things I have done.
