Body is too shot. Man the good old days when a guy thought they had power. Would love to drive a new one just to see how they ride and the power they must have. Last new one i had was a 1974 if i remember correctly and last year i rode was probably around 1978.

Same boat here, , Out to the mailbox and around the farmyard a couple times a month is about the extent of it but the novelty doesn't wear off. I like them all but the old wide trackers with electric start and reverse are my favorite because they are easy to get in and out of the shed. I get laughed at but I use a gunny sack filled with gunny sacks for a makeshift elevated seat and that helps a lot. I'm not that serious of a collector but it's a fun hobby.

No preference with sleds, I like them all but the older I get wide track and reverse is important . I am partial to twin cylinder Rockwell engines though , Mostly because I grew up around them and know them inside and out. They were tough as nails as long as you kept the hot side cool enough. I have a few of those salted away for projects, One is going in a 70 Evinrude wide track with reverse that has what we used to call the "pancake engine" with apposing cylinders , No power at all. Current project is a 68 Ski daddler that has a 540CC Motosacoche engine that was made in Switzerland, Curious to rear how it sounds and see what it has for power. It's fun stuff to tinker with in the winter.

Nice Did you happen to pick up the 48 on Fargo craigslist about a year and a half or two ago ? I called on one that was already sold. Always wanted one but now I'm wondering about doing something like this with my 31 chevy truck because old one ton trucks are kind of boring.

Look what my buddies took ownership of this week!
That's an original factory team Merc race sled personally delivered by the man that used to race and dominate on it, Mr Lee Fredrickson. Pretty cool stuff. And delivered from the back of a minivan no less! Ha ha

Holy crap 5575 that is cool 250 440 or 340 F/A mercury sno twister, what year 75-76
I always figured that there was mercury engine under the hood but nope it was a kohler engine. That kohler free air engines were power plants for a different snowmobile manufacturer like Mercury, Rupp, John Deere, Polaris and there was some off brand manufactures to. That is quite magificant piece of machinery.

WOW, That IS cool. They were quite the go getter back in the day.

- - - Updated - - -

I remember the snow twisters and thunder jets duking it out for first and second on the oval track. My wife's cousin has two thunder jets stashed away, I'm not sure on the value but I'm pretty sure they are worth a lot of cash. Those had to have been exciting times for manufacturers until The mad dash for cash crashed fast.

Got some Moto-Skis sitting around collecting dust. Nothing racy just 73 F340s and an older doo clone. If anyone is interested they'd go cheap.

New sleds are wicked. Mountain sleds weigh less than 420 pounds and make 165hplans stock. The old tanks weigh 450 pounds and make 30hp lol!

Certainly admire those that keep and restore those old vintage sleds. There's a lot of history that finally boiled down to the 4 manufactures we have today. I've contemplated it myself several times but every time I think I should restore one, I remember just how terrible they actually rode and handled and kind of figure it wouldn't be any thing more than a dust collector in the shop. The novelty wears off pretty quickly when you jump from the new sleds of today and on to one of the vintage classics. For now, I'll stick with the new stuff, just finished outfitting a new M8000 last week. You guys keep it going, lets see some more photos. Anybody have an old panther or cheetah with the leopard print seat? I know where a restored 1970 sits with a 760 Rockwell and Montana side pipes. Way cool for the day.....
