ND EMS Foundation is hosting it's first annual tournament this year on August 18th out of Van Hook. The last time I checked there really aren't that many teams signed up so please push this event so we can support a worthy cause. I do know the sign up forms look a little strange so let me break it down so it's easy to understand. Entry fee is $300 for a 2 person team and you can have up to 4 people on your team with each additional person costing $35 (4 person team = $370). That's aimed more at those who like to fish with their family however even with 4 people you are limited to a maximum of 4 lines. This one day event should really be a good time so lets show some support and get this thing off the ground and running. If you have any questions please let me know and if I don't know the answer I know who to talk to. You can register online at www.NDEMSA.org as well so that makes things really easy. Thanks and I hope to see you on the water.

I finished 7th with 21.5 lbs. Winners had 29lbs and I think there were 74 teams. Overall it was a really good time and I hope people look into fishing it next year so we can fill the field.

We were at the cleaning station at the same time Saturday. It was a fun tourney. The full results are supposed to be posted by 5:00 this afternoon.

I also fished it, finished 6th with 22 and change. I have to applaud their volunteer team. There were volunteers and officials running around everywhere. They did an excellent job making sure you knew what was going on and had everything filled out. Their system was slow, from start to finish but I know they are in their first year and are taking alot of ideas home with them as to how to make it better next year. I intend to be back unless my schedule doesnt allow it.
Besides that, as winners, you get to have the LifeFlight helo hovering in the background of your picture, how cool is that!!!

Id rate it a B- this year with im sure a huge improvement in the works next year. I have certainly fished worse.

Thank you to all of the help for all of your time. It was nice to see such a big crew there working!

Did anyone else think that their bag was lighter than it should have been. We could have swore that we had about 20 but only weighted 16 something. There were a lot of baskets and scales IMO. I just hope that all 5 of our fish were in the same basket. I am in no way saying that it was a bad tournament. Everything was great but a little confused about the weigh-in.

You had to escort your fish to the scale, all fish were in one basket on one scale as I watched several come through the line. The baskets were all numbered for the scale so 1 went to scale 1 and so on. I can 100% agree on the confusion, they need to load everyone, take em to a different area away from the ramp, park em, and have them carry their fish up, going to 1 scale in the process. Figuring out a way for the bad apples to keep from digging into someone elses fish is a whole new story at that point.

I have been in 3 tournaments between indian hills and van hook in the last month and fish are running on the light side.
August 5th, I had a 27 3/4" fish that went for 6#6oz, another in the same tourament had a 24 that went 3#9oz. I know of friends in the women on the water that would have given anything to have been fishing lake fish rather than river fish. All that current stretched em out and thinned em down.
The EMS officials took a pretty good list of suggestions home with them so im sure there will be adjustments next year.
While I cant say that there werent discrepancies with the scales, I would think we would be talking ounces not pounds.

There are really fat fish in the system and then there are some more normal looking fish in there right now. I haven't seen anything I would call skinny though. Our biggest fish of the tournament was only 24" but overly thick and fat and went 5 lbs 13 oz. From what I've seen this fall is going to be phenomenal!

On a different note there were suggestions made to improve the tournament and I think next year will be even better!
