If the reasoning behind not allowing hunting is that bears only occupy a certain percentage of their historical home range, then consequently elk should also not be allowed to be hunted, as they also only occupy a small percentage of their original home range. Regardless of whether there are grizzly bears in ND & SD should have no impact on what could soon to be a overpopulation in Wyoming and Idaho. Best left to the states

We are unfortunately going to be reading more articles like this: This came from a friend of mine who has a brother who works for WY G&F. Not exactly sure how old this story is, but he just sent it to me today.

[h=1]Guide fatally mauled by bear while helping Florida hunter in Wyoming[/h]A Wyoming hunting guide has been found dead after he and a Florida hunter were attacked by bears on Friday.
Guide Mark Uptain, 37, and his client Corey Chubon came back to the site of an elk kill Friday morning in the Teton Wilderness. Chubon, who was bow hunting, shot the elk Thursday, but he and Uptain were unable to find the animal at the time.
The pair located the carcass and prepared to remove it when they were charged by two bears, according to authorities.
Chubon was able to escape and grab his pistol, online news site Buckrail reports, but wasn’t able to safely fire at the bear who was at that time on top of Uptain. Chubon told authorities he threw the gun to Uptain before fleeing the scene to call for help.
Chubon suffered leg, chest and arm injuries and was flown to a Jackson hospital, according to Teton County spokesman Billy Kirk. He was released from the hospital Saturday, the same day authorities found Uptain's body.
Wyoming wildlife managers have since killed two grizzly bears in connection with the attack.
A June article published in Jackson Hole News & Guide described Uptain, a Casper, Wyoming business owner, as a husband to wife Sarah and father to five children.

Unforunate, but the shooter deserves some responsibility here. If you can't make a clean, killing shot, then don't shoot.

Leaving meat laying around in the mountains overnight is not a good idea.

judges making scientific designs is one of the biggest problems with out system. Its time for the esa and equal access to justice acts revised so they are not taken advantage of

really this is the one of the dumbest things ever wrote on here. The animal was dead they found it the next morning. They were archery hunting so the animal does not die right there. It must be tough to be perfect what do you high shoulder animals with your bow so they die right there? The problem is there are to many grizzly bears plain and simple and they are not scarred of people

When the bears over run Yellowstone what are they going to do, send some to the Badlands?

Put Judge in cage with bear and see if he changes his mind and wants a gun. Give him gun with one bullet which still gives him a choice. Wait and see if he is still a judge or a hunter.

Change the tires on the famed mountain lion trailer boys, time to move some grizzlies! I would suggest just floating a barge down the Yellowstone and releasing a few every 10 miles until they hit the Garrison Dam; then just turn loose whatever is left.

In all seriousness, just the same as elk, grizzlies are plains animals pushed to the mountains by humans. If i remember correctly, the last ND grizzly was shot in the 1930s in the Killdeer Mountains. And I believe Meriwether and Bill shot (wounded) their first grizzly right at the mouth of the Heart River and killed one up by the Yellowstone confluence.

There seems to be a particular group of people that claims to be the political party backing science until it interferes with their emotions (gender and wildlife management to name a couple). Emotions need to be removed from good science; especially when it comes to management of natural resources.

A lot of Native names with elk, wolf or bear in them. They were obviously prevalent in the Dakotas. Don't see much of a push to reinstate them by the PC crowd. Wonder why?

Leo DiCaprio got attacked by a grizzly near Lemmon, so they were definitely in the Dakotas at one time. Can't wait until GNF starts trailering those sum-bitches back for reintroduction.
