Sakakawea and Audubon. All I know is fish shallower or just try fishing for walleye and you are bound to just catch northern. How big do you want?

My biggest landed was 18lbs out of tschida last February, I would like to at least have a shot to top that this year, any advice would be welcomed

And I’m not so good with the eyes, I have made small attempts to catch them here and there but failed miserably

How shallow are we talking? I know they move with the walleye into deeper water as the winter progresses

For big pike your going to want to be at Sak and Oahe, although i do think numbers of the over 20# pike are down in recent years. I don't target the things anymore but my biggest is a 24# out of Sak about 10 years ago through the ice.

I'd like to figure out the pike again. I think they are still there, just moved a little deeper chasing smelts as the main food source. I've only been fishing Sak for 6 years, but its night and day difference between the last few winters and winters of 12', 13', 14'. It used to be crazy easy to go throw tip ups out shallow 4-12', or cut a spear hole almost anywhere and see good numbers of pike. The last few years it has been downright tough to find any consistent numbers. This year I will be spending majority of my time pike fishing in 15+ FOW.

Ya Last year I fished pretty deep, I found 12-25 FOW was where they were hanging, even pulled a big catfish through the ice last year

So for those targeting pike in deeper water, are you going right off the bottom or suspended at different levels?

I did pretty well last year anywhere from 2-6 feet off the bottom, in my opinion the key for the deeper fish is finding an offshore island or a saddle with drop offs on either side, inside turns on shoals and points seemed to be the ticket to

You might think I'm cazy; but when I use to ice fish for pike we use to fish all the way to 40 feet with tip-ups and Smelt. And had good success. I don't think the 20 lb pike are down on Sakakawea they just live were the smelts at and they're living out in that 25 feet and deeper. You do want to move up into the shallows later in the spring when the water warms up. But try the deeper areas they will produce.

Sak. From shore in the Spring at ice out. The sooner after ice out the better. That's when/where the big girls go to spawn. Go way back in the bays.

From Bismarck....I would head down to Beaver Bay on Oahe. Study up on the stocking reports too.
