I agree with both sides to a point, I wouldn't ever want them to become illegal. They can be a building tool. During the short time our kids played mario and duck hunt they picked up a lot of skills. Hand to eye coordination , problem solving skills and the ability to super concentrate, All good that helped them develop and will stick with them for life. On the other hand, Public awareness can lead to better parenting. The content of the games in the video that Trump showed at his meeting yesterday is a poor environment for babies , toddlers, little kids and teens. That's simply good parenting.

From the white house youtube page. I wouldn't want my grandkids anywhere near this stuff.

There are a lot of things that affect the development of kids. I'm not convinced there is any one thing that will turn them violent. There is no place for some of the gory games whether is causes later violence or not. Convince me that a child will be deprived if they don't get to play a violent video game.

By the same token I am amazed at the number of R rated movies I go to and see several kids in the 6-10 year old range. They are there with their parents but REALLY? Why do parents think that's OK? The only reason I can think of is that parents don't want to pay a babysitter to stay home with their children. Perhaps if you can't afford the sitter, the movie isn't all that important.

For me, it's not any one thing, it's a combination over time. Lack of supervision, proper guidance, no family communication, of maybe it's just not enough family dinners.

Also your right they do have ratings, but established by the industry and those ratings ate a joke, and have no enforcement. They should have a rating by interests outside the industry with special attention to brain development by age. People who are more violent because of these games have no way to judge themselves. Those on here that say "it didn't hurt me" are perhaps bat shit crazy and have not been diagnosed. Everyone sees themselves as normal no matter how out of touch they are. Domler may or may not have thought it was perfectly normal to eat people. It's dependent on his level of delusion.
All good points pg we see alot of shows on cable tv that over dramatize killing for the sake of shock value. Again it's still a matter of discussion who has the final say as to what an 8 year old can watch on tv or what video game the parental figures will tolerate.

I think in the not to far into the future humans will have figured out all known genes that cause human diseases, mental illness, and disorders. Some people have already found out and have taken proper steps to combat these diseases example Angelina Jolie.

Until then let's find the real issue hear that would be like someone else said lack of love, compassion, and empathy in our fellow human beings.

Lets be better at it. If a game has a mature rating dont let your 8 year old kid play. Simple stuff folks

    - - - Updated - - -

or lets just start banning stuff, and writing more laws.
Sorry I missed this SD. I real rating would vastly improve the situation. Let parents be informed would help immensely. Also, like cigarettes don't let kids under 18 by those rated for mature. If their parents don't care let the parents purchase them. Children can learn a foreign language three times as fast as you and I. They also absorb things they should not much faster. Fastest at 0 to two years old, still fast at 2 to 7 years old. Faster than us up to 16 years old, then by 18 they have what they call a detox time. They can play four hours a week for ten days then go outdoors and after about 65 to 72 hours they turn into themselves again. They have actually tracked heart rate, blood pressure, and brainwave. These kids over 16 shake it off in little time.

Edit: Oh crap I didn't see there was already a second page.

Well Lunker I think it will be a while. After identifying the entire human genome we find we can control eye color and some other things. Once we started doing that we found that those little crosslinks in the DNA model control more than one physical characteristic and perhaps five or six things. There is something so small we have not yet identified it. It's back a couple of steps until we solve that puzzle.

Fly Carpin I can't read who provided that data. Could you read the original and post up? Thanks. I ask because like the cigarette companies having their own bought and paid for doctors the gaming industry is doing the same thing.

No. You have google. Do it yourself. Not only do you admittedly not read links people provide, but now you want someone else to do the legwork for you? Hard pass.

Yikes your bra pinching you this morning? I only asked because you can't read anything on your post. Sorry I thought it might be important. The top subline looks like it reads "data from gobal burden of disease collaboration" which doesn't make sense and I'm sure that's not what it says. Before another smart ass comment no my glasses are new.

Edit: Are you telling me I'm the only one that don't read all GST's bs links?

There's two causes of these mass shootings. Piss poor parenting and mental illness that isn't being addressed. Until this is headed in the other direction no new laws will change a damn thing. When people don't even know their own damn sex we're screwed

Now and then a video game comes up on were ever I am at on this machine.

I tell you one thing the women on the graphics look a lot different than when I was a young kid and when the parents where not around I would look at certain pages in the Pennies or Ward wish book. As a 8 year old boy my picture thoughts are aided big time now.

Did not have the same as a young kid when it comes to the killing (only Matt Dillon and Lucas McCain ( and I think he average 2-3 kills a show, but made it each time to the next show as the good guy should) but I am sure they are not helping us out on this issue. db-2

Yeah, the good guys killed some bad guys when we were younger but there was rarely even a bullet hole. Saw some of the video games used as examples during the meetings at the White House. Can anyone explain to me where the thrill is to have a game so violent. Where is the public outcry when a game meant for the younger audience, or at least no guarantee that young children cannot have access, has a scene where a person's throat gets ripped out. There can be no social value in such games. The right to Free Speech only goes so far in my mind.

Hell, I've been hunting for years and even I don't like to see much blood when I shoot an animal. Other than wanting them to die quickly I want the blood cleaned off before I do much looking. Have taken some pictures in the past where I didn't take the time to clean the animal up and then look later and wonder "Why didn't I take a little time for a nice picture?"

If you're a parent who allows your children to use such brutal video games I guess I might question "what the hell are your thinking?"

I was fortunate enough to live during a generation where it was "sitting in front of the tv is going to ruin your eyes"? Kids went out to the park without parental supervision. I to wonder why these video games like grand theft auto seems to be encourage a behavior that would be sick and demented.
There was a movie that was made about the guys who produced grand theft auto "the gamechangers"

When I grew up we didn't have have video game's,but we had some dang good westerns, take gunsmoke for example which each episode had gun violence, people gettin shot, gun fights etc and no mass shooting's and all of us youngin's were taught respect towards our parents and authority including teachers, don't see this much today in the cities, country folks yes not cities for the most part,so agreed with above statements, parents need to be parents #1 not just a freind to they're children.

It's sickening wartching news these days, high schooler's attacking teacher's and peer's,a good ass whoopin goes a long way

I do watch two shows of gunsmoke most nights.
Matt does enjoy giving the bad guys a good ass whopping (he sure likes to slap them up and a punch now and then) and if need be a bullet somewhere.
And if they start showing some disrespect he has no problem telling them what will happen to them next. No pussy here. Only once did i see a lawyer on the show. He told Matt he had to stop doing it his way until the lawyer got his ass whip by the bad guys.

But it was the good guys against the bad guys with out any details in the killing. Just bad asses getting what they deserve.
Good learning tool for us kids when we were watching. We learn right. And then the teachers were allow to use the ruler now and then and it was worse when us kids got home. db

db I thought I was the only one watching gunsmoke most nights, still a great show and let's not forget "festis" he's pretty good with his pistola as well. Us youngin's never even thought about bringing a pistol to school but then we didn't have handguns back then like today just toy gun's and a pistol belt.

Instead of looking at what is missing in these children's lives they are going after internet porn. We all know who is to blame, Satan is to blame it doesnt matter what distractions it is anything that takes away the power of god is to blame.

So video games that are horribly gory and involve murder are ok. Do we agree that video games that involve smoking meth, screwing prostitutes, and etc... ok for children????

If you don't think kids should be allowed to play games that involve activity mentioned above then I don't think you should agree that kids can play murder games.

Noway kids should have access to those kinds of games, kids shouldn't have access to drugs or alcohol, kids shouldn't have access to porn, and kids should have access to healthy lifestyle. This can only be accomplished with the help of good positive role models home and school.

There are many factors involved in these killings, no one thing is to blame. But, constant immersion in any activity trains the mind to accept that activity as normal, even more so with a young mind. So combining violent video games with lack of parenting, religion and morals, gives us violent kids. And we wonder why.

I find it ironic that people who would never allow their child to consume even one drink containing alcohol, are perfectly fine with their child playing video games, or watching movies, that glorify drug use, rape and murder.
