Well with only about a foot and a half to go looks like she's going to give it a run. Record is 1619.7 she's currently at 1618.3 and with 65,000 coming in and only 29,000 going out with a .2 rise yesterday. The record before 2011 was set in 97 at 1618.7 so that looks to be an easy mark to reach. Hopefully this doesn't cause any major setbacks for the baitfish. If i was living along the river down in Missouri and iowa i would be getting a bit nervous because what little breathing room the corp could give them is just about up. Side note going to be a lot of guys in Bismarck hitting sandbars this weekend with the river turned down by 50%.

Sakakawea is looking to be in the same situation, shitload coming in, not much going out, and she's getting pretty full, 1848ish, and I think 1854 was the record in 2011.

The record on her was 1854.8 and she's at 1847.5 today. Luckily her inflows are a bit mellow right now at 44,000 so they were able to choke her back to 14,000 to help oahe for now.

So, will sak sit plump full all summer? Or will they dump some serious water thru the dam soon?

My guess with all the record flooding down south they will hold back as much as they can for as long as they can. Mud is coming down so the rivers are coming up every day.

http://www.nwd-mr.usace.army.mil/rcc/reports/twregfcast.pdfhere is the USGS system projections for next 20 days or so. Garrison will over double releases over next 14-20 days or so from 15000 CFS now to 40000 CFS by the 19th of June. Water on MR by Bismarck has dropped 2 1/2-3 ft. around Bismarck in last 4-5 days. Some Marina's cannot even be used around town according to the news. Its been a yoyo around town, every time the CORPS tries to raise releases the weather craps on the Midwest part of the country and they cut releases. At some point just going to have to let some water go.

We made the trip up to NoDak last week and back to AZ this week. Rained all the way up to ND from Kansas and darn near all the way back to New Mexico. Lots of farmland not seeded in Kansas, Nebraska, and SoDak. The farmers in NoDak could be sitting very well if they get their crop land seeded as lots of acres not going to get seeded in the above states. We took 83 up and back lots of water in the fields going up and coming back there was water up to or going over the roads in quite a few places and the rivers were overflowing their banks big time and the water was really hauling ass.
One thing they can't control is Mother Nature!

Low River Levels To End In Bismarck Soon

Posted: Jun 6, 2019 / 12:22 AM CDT / Updated: Jun 6, 2019 / 07:50 PM CDT

You may have noticed that Missouri river levels here in Bismarck look lower than normal.

Yet flood warnings are in effect for the Missouri River in Williston.

There’s a very specific reason for that.

The National Weather Service says the Army Corps of Engineers has greatly reduced the amount of water being discharged out of the Garrison Dam.

This is to help alleviate the flooding problems taking place downstream in portions of South Dakota and Nebraska.

On the flip side, the lower discharge is resulting in much higher water levels on Lake Sakakawea and minor flooding is happening in Williston.

We talked with the Weather Service and it tells us once the Corps lifts the restrictions, water levels in Bismarck should remain high for quite some time.

“We’re going to be seeing 40 some odd thousand cubic feet per second in two weeks time, that is going to go for an extended amount of time, because the Corps of Engineers is going to want to evacuate a lot of this excess water they have stored in the Missouri River Mainstem”, said Allen Schlag, a Hydrologist with the NWS Bismarck.

He adds once that happens, water levels in Bismarck could remain high for the rest of the summer.

With oahe having got to around a foot of the top of her spillway gates they had to choke back Sak but they are definitely putting themselves with next to no breathing room if we suddenly start getting allot of rain.
