Headed to the tailrace this weekend. Looking to target some cats, wondering if anyone knows a good spot to try with this high water? We’ll be staying at the Downstream campground so anywhere near there would be best. Also be fishing from shore no boat.

Right off the wall of the lower tailrace parking lot by the launch. It's called the honey hole. A piece of night crawler on an 8 inch snell on the bottom with a 1/2 oz or larger no roll sinker will catch you more catfish than you can eat. It is RARE to catch a catfish over 4 lbs down there, so don't expect much for size. You should also have a fair shot at some walleyes as well as carp, suckers, sheephead, and other various fish to include the odd trout. Good luck and have fun.

Question? Are catfish hard to clean or is it the same way you clean Walleye?

Similar to walleye, but stay above the rib cage and gut cavity. No bones, just fillet off the skin and trim off all the dark meat.

The best bait is a half smelt on a circle hook with a flat or pyramid weight a foot or two above it.

Fish off the blocks at the boat ramp, around the wingwalls, or off shore down stream in any slower or slack water.

It's moving, you'll need weights designed for current.

Wingwalls are best for cats, but you'll need to make or buy a pier net/basket.

Can a guy shore fish the spillway or do they have it blocked off. That place was insane with cats the last time they ran it.
