Was it disaster averted or just a good plan well executed?

I suppose it could have gone a little south. However, in my opinion, "disaster" is a pretty strong word.

The water level in Bismarck never reached 14 ft. 14.5 ft is considered minor flood level. In 2011 we were over 19 ft.

The outflow of the dam rarely exceeded 61K cfs. In 2011 it ran at 150K cfs for a LONG time.

This year, admittedly, the lake was close to max elevation, however it was MUCH later than in 2011, and they never did release any water through the spillway gates. It might have been a close thing, with the wind possibly pushing some water over the gates, but they never did open them.

Not sure outside of fertilizer what people do with them but I know what this juvenile Eagle was going to do with one. Well just as soon as his waterlogged ass could fly again! Maybe next time he'll learn not to pick up something so heavy out in deep water he ended up having to swim his ass to shore.

The grant marsh ramp is in now as well. Have been fishing south of town, down near where dean lurks, the last few weekends with fair success. Nothing fast but it’s been consistent. 5-10 fish per outing with most 15-19” and a few 22-23”. Jigs with crawlers. Be careful down there dean, apparently there are some self- proclaimed gang members beating the shit out of people with baseball bats down there......

Ha Ha saw a lot of boats on the river this weekend that didn't get the memo of the recent outflow cutbacks. They learned that they can't cruise where ever they like anymore, lots of sandbars lurking just below the surface now, saw probably 6 boats hung up on sandbars and a few that hit them as we were out cruising.

Jesus, the river is only ~1.75 ft below what it was at its peak. I know I refer to my own navigational style as "driving by braille" at times, but even I won't hit a sandbar at these river levels.

    I think...

Haha, it's deep in spots, but still shallow water in spots. You can find the shallow spots by going really fast at night. It's fool-proof.

It's set to go down (in Bismarck) another 4" to 6" by the weekend.

I hammered my first one last wednesday. Though I'd be safe but I buried that yamaha pretty fast.

The faster one is traveling, the further from deep water you will be, when you come to rest.

Luckily, the water isn't super cold right now. "EVERYBODY OUT!".

Years ago while camping on an island up by the Missouri and Yellowstone confluence for p-fishing, we used Olympic scorecards to rate how hard people hit the sandbar on the south side of the island. One fiberglass boat hit it so hard the driver and other front seat passenger flew through the windshield and landed in 4-6 inches of water, along with the windshield, coolers, etc.

I felt kind of bad for them as I towed them off that sandbar. I know there were some pretty bad bruises amongst the passengers, and the driver's ego.
