I have a Remington 740 Woodsmaster semi auto chambered in .280 Remington and am looking to buy a scope for it. My budget is probably $100 or less at this time. Is it possible to find a decent scope under $100 that would work for deer hunting under 250 yards? What magnification should I look for? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Do you have rings and bases already? For $100 or less your options are VERY limited. I don't think you'll see a discernable difference among anything at that price point. Maybe find used something a step up on EBay?

I'd check Bisman for a used scope. Not alot of even decent glass around that price.
If you have to buy rings and bases you might want to practice with the opens.

I would keep checking Scheels and Walyworld. Your not going to find much at that price point but both will have open box/ returns for a good deal. Never looked for scopes but on other things Scheels will have refurbished branded items at a steel some times.

ebay for used is by far your best bet. I've bought several that were great over the years.
