Sure have been allot of giant pike and walleye caught the past month. I've never seen this many big eyes, not even anything comparable.
So what do we attribute this too? The late spring and prolonged cold water temps preventing the spawn maybe?
At this rate the state record could be In trouble possibly.

I've seen 12-15 lb fish being caught in several bodies of water across the state. But in the lip has been best.

I actually would put even money on the next state record coming from the red. If eyes were fished harder up north.... better than even money.

If it was easier to catch a pre-spawn fish it would help your cause. Not many years give a guy the ability to open water fish before the spawn.

Ya. I suppose. But, a right after ice out pre spawn piggy north of Drayton us exactly what I imagine setting the record. Admittedly, I am a bit naive when it comes to the red.

I agree, that the Sak is most likely gonna be the spot, but don't underestimate smaller but growing bodies of water. McGregor Damn, Lake Alice, etc. have a great chance.
