What are your thoughts on frontal shots at a whitetail out of a ground blind at <20 yds?

Asking for a friend. He had a dream that might come true this weekend.

Nope. Vital become very small, sternum, shoulders, likely to get a single lung and guts. Also harder to draw with a better chance of spooking the deer. I'm a pass and wait.

Normally a no. Did have a buck coming at me fast one time right after I got out of my tree stand. On the ground I was standing behind a huge oak tree, and I could hear him steadily coming right at me. I drew back, and when he came around the tree he was about 4 yards from me. He stuck his head up looking at me realizing too late what was up. I shot him dead center below the white of his neck. Muzzys do a lot of damage to tissue and bone at point blank! It was a one off deal. I wouldn’t have shot if he was further away. Things lined up perfect. Definitely was a never forget moment

Go for it. My first (still largest) buck was a dead straight frontal shot from 16' up with a 243. I also took my first deer with a bow (from a blind) with a frontal shot to the jugular. (young and dumb - don't hate me) Anyway, I've seen many deer killed in this manner on television and other media also. It can be and is done frequently. Better shots? Absolutely. Would I hesitate now, just a bit!

Gun with a rest I would do it but this is with a bow. No way. Too much can go wrong and for me what can go wrong will go wrong.

Shot a doe full frontal at about 8 yard as she was looking back. Arrow slid in right by the neck and shoulder and disappeared. Head of the arrow lodged in her hip and I never seen so much damage done to a deer by a arrow.

What's the worst thing that can happen, you kill a mountain lion off the carcass a couple days later?

Other than being dead, the deer I shot yesterday straight through the throat at 90 yards has no complaints. 162 A-max, no exit.

My bad, I didn’t know this was an archery thing. My vote is no with stick and string.

Are we talking with a rifle? I’d take that shot all day long...

We are not talking rifle. This is an archery forum question. Id shoot all day with rifle but not with a bow.
