I am looking at buying a boat tomorrow that has a 140 4 Stroke Suzie on it. Has 230 hours. Read a lot of stuff online and there are always a few lemmons in the bunch. Most guys had a lot of good to say. Said he replaced a coil years back but has been great since. Can someone that has or had one give me some feed back on them or what to look for when I pull the cover off.

Thanks

One of the most bullet proof motors ever produced! I loved mine, sold it and that thing gets used more the past 15 years since on that viper than any engine I know both for fishing and recreation "tube behind it lots" and it hasn't missed a lick! They get great fuel economy as well and have low end torque also.
Miss the days when they were little..

I have one on my boat. Been a great motor, quiet, smooth. Had some general maintenance done last year, first real work in 10 years beside yearly fluid changes. They have a strong lower unit, don't ask how I know.

230hrs on a Suzuki outboard is like 23,000mi on a Honda or Toyota car. Change the oil, lower unit lube, and fuel filter every year. You’ll likely never have to do anything else.

My fishing partner traded his 07 boat in last spring had almost 2000 hrs on a 175. Dealer ran their compression checks and computer check and said it was as strong as the day it was put on. My 200 is an 08 with roughly 450 hrs and have not not any issues. Do yearly maintenance and it will last forever. IMO Best engine on the market right now.

I had a 2009 Alumacraft with a Suzuki 140 on it and I loved that motor. When I sold the boat the motor had roughly 110 hours on it, the motor was still as strong as the day I bought it. You won't regret that purchase.

Now ask about a 2006 Sylvan Viper and see what the feedback is. I have never had one can't help.

I have no doubt that Suzuki builds a fine outboard but it's kind of ironic that of the only two guys I have known to own one, both failed catastrophically and were scrapped. Keep in mind this was 10 to 15 years ago and I have no idea as to how many hours the units had on them. I do know that one of the guys fished a lot and put a lot of trolling hours on his.

Suzuki 2-strokes were dogshit.

That doesn't change the fact that their EFI 4-strokes are fantastic.

Viper were probably one of the best boats for the money with that 140 Suzuki setup, although to bad the 175 Suzuki wasn't more popular since it was rated for it.
I take an older viper out every now and then on sak and it still impressed me.
Actually that ones for sale if anyone's looking. 150 merc, 9.9 kicker, newer HDS graphs batteries and charger and terrova. Also has a newer tandem axle prestige under it.

Can confirm the 2 strokes were horrible. One acquaintance had a 140 2 stroke and it performed like maybe a 90.
