I think there is enough interest for a boat launch on each of these bodies of water. I guess there has been plenty of information spread around lately. I was curious why the state land at the end of channel A has never been considered as a viable spot on dry lake. The terrain is perfect. Also a perfectly good road already exists. Ample parking as well. Just a thought.
On the same note, couldn't the federal government allow the state to build a boat lauch at the Alice nwr compound. I totally understand that boats aren't allowed on Alice. But this land is basically the boundary line. I know plenty of fishermen who would love to access these waters. Believe me, I'm one of them. Any thoughts, insights?

I see the same ideals and mentalities exist here as well. I actually was invited to pose my question here. The moderator said it was a friendly community. I sure am glad we don't live in a socialistic environment. I'd more than likely be first on the firing line.

I guess I'm not sure why people get to upset when they view my "opinions". Usually when I see something I don't like/agree with, I turn the channel.

I didn't see anything wring with his initial post. He didn't mention names, or that bad mouth guides in any way. I thought this site was the land of 2nd chances. I agree that he handled it bad on FBO, and this is how he should of have started his thread there. But why punish him for his posts there. I guess I took a wait and see attitude, but I see others didn't. I have no dog in this fight, but if I lived in the DL area, I might wonder why I can't access those areas as well.

That's what we are trying to do. Change the channel. However, it seems that our message is not being received. We are friendly, but when a person comes on here and refuses to acknowledge the assistance he has received and ignores the information and suggestions provided, it tends to ruffle feathers. I think you are confusing "Friendly" with "Agreement". Not agreeing with you does not make us less friendly. Continueing to pound on this subject from your keyboard soap box while at the same time belittling our opinions is not going to get you what you want. In fact it may do the exact opposite.

The feds are worried about birds not fish plain and simple. Andy maybe you should find or start a sportsman club that could raise funds to purchase a parcel of land to create a public boat launch/ handi-capped accessible fishing area!

I guess I haven't heard an explanation I believe or understand. One thing is for sure, most people who continuously post about the area in question have not been there. It's ludicrous. I love the mob mentality. Apparently it holds true online too. "Get him"

This is not in any way a "Mob Mentality". I actually went back to that "Other site" (I can't believe I actually admitted that) and read the several threads you started on this issue. There were numerous insights, suggestions, and opportunities provided to you in an effort to resolve this issue. From what I read and from what I gathered here, you have not explored any of those options. Therefore, I have no choice, but to put this down as a personal vendetta for which you will NOT accept any alternative than what you want.

I've heard Alice is considering opening the refuge to fishing. Whether that's true or not. If I had the funding, I'd definitely fund a handicapped accessible area. If you've never had a family member or friend in a wheelchair you probably don't understand. Grass, mud, snow can be very inhibiting. Something most obviously take for granted

I've sent many emails to the state. Haven't looked for responses yet.

Bad Andy, if you want a new start here, I think we are all for it. Understand that everyone here is protective of what we have developed here. A productive and genuine sportsmen community. No one wants the big feuds anymore. I think that your original post was good. Nothing wrong with it. And imo I have the same questions about said topic. That being said, I hope you continue to be active here, with the firm understanding of what we are. Everyone deserves a chance to turn the page. <~~~ see what I did there?

Welcome to NDA!

There's no public boat launch. The public have basically just used ditches and old road beds. Most of which are unusable now.

News flash.... Just got a email from Jon kelsch. I believe a member of the Ramsey water board. He stated that a public fishing pier has been proposed south of the bridge adjacent to the flood protection equipment at channel A. Dry is a huge body of water rich with walleye and other game fish. Apparently I'm not the only one who would like to access the lake.

He he also stated that the road leading to dry was fenced for 2 reasons: 1. Farmer complaining of vehicles blocking road 2. Liability concerns of people hurting themselves launching boats on the channel. I guess in my opinion, anytime you launch a boat you assume a certain amount of risk and responsibility.

Only way be a boat access if farmers are willing to sell land off their ROW, if we go through a dry cycle, most farmers want their farm land back. The lakes up north of devils lake to my knowledge have never been stocked with fish. Those lakes (chain lakes) were originally to be drained through drainage ditches (channelA, mauvai). I can't see a public boat launch being built. Right now seems to be more problems with some accesses on devils lake, that would be my top priority for this year.

Dry lake campground allows use of boat launch if you rent a campsite

I wonder if something like that could be done with OHF money and an easement. I think the access on twin lake is just an easement.

I have a seasonal at Dry Lake Campground, and last year it would cost you 20 bucks to use the ramp at the campground. Not sure if she is charging that rate again this year or not. I understand your frustration Andy, but Dry Lake has been going down the last few years as well as DL. If Dry gets much lower, it won't be that great of a fishery. Last year by July it was so chocked out with weeds it made it very hard to find an area where you could fish. Plus with it being such a shallow lake the water temps sky rocket in the summer and the fish don't taste too good. I would be hesitant in putting a public landing in on a lake that the fishing is only good for two months...3 at the most and the rest of year is so full of weeds it makes getting around a pain in the ass. Just my .02
