I have been looking at the Weatherby Vanguard Accuguard in 257 Weatherby on their website. Just wondering if the 24" barrel is long enough or if you really loss that much in fps from the 26"?;:;banghead

You will loose about 150fps. You will never notice the difference.

I doubt it'll even be that much. I run 100's @ 3665FPS via 25" bbl.

That's a lot of speed out of a 25 inch barrel. I have a 26 on one of my rifles and get 3585fps and that's pushing it hard thru a Oehler P35 chronograph.

If you want real speed get a 25-300 Weatherby. A 300 Weatherby necked down to a 25 caliber.

How long does that barrel last?!

You push anything at or near 3600fps and you'll be calling bugholes for a new stick in 1500 rounds. I burned out a 26 inch .300RUM barrel in 1800 rounds loaded with 105 gr. of Retumbo pushing 150 grainers 3400 fps. I load down my 22-250's to around 3170fps with 33gr. of Varget just to save my barrels, I know speed kills but it also kills your barrels. As long as you know your holdovers you're fine, my 800 yarders with my 250's are around 29 MOA so it's still not really that much different.

I sent you a query about M855 bullets...Could they be pulled for benefit?

Widener's, Pat's Reloading, and Jeff Bartlett Reloading all have pulled 855 projectiles occasionally.

Sorry, I have no life. Did you see the medic article and the gel test? Are they inherently inaccurate? The article and gel shot mind effed my perception/assumption about the bullet.

I've seen guys shot with just about everything and that 5.56 round hit a bone, you should see what a 7.62 wound looks like when it hits a femur, it's a mess. I don't think they're that inaccurate, lowest bidder yes but we wouldn't dream of shooting that crap at any gov't matches. That stuff is good for training and trigger time before deployments, that's about it for me if I had a choice.

I dont care if I only get 800 rds. I will never shoot out the barrel. As its a rifle I hunt Deer with. So it will last me a life time and if I do shoot it out it will cost me about 600.00 to rebarrel and im back shooting it again
