Thinking of picking up one of these in a 45 ACP. Looking at Kimber, S&W, Sig Sauer, Springfield.....lots of choices - gets a little confusing. Any input on what to consider, what to stay away from, or guys that have experience with them....let's hear it.

Did you have a budget in mind?

I personally own a springfield and it is a great gun for the money. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it is a shooter. I have friends that own the Kimbers and S&W's, those are great as well. Another option would be the colt's.

The biggest thing I notice from the low end 1911's to the high ends is the trigger pull. You get what you pay for here.

If you can, shoot a couple different models and see what you like. Lots of different options with the safety, grips, sights etc. Do some research and find what you like.

I have a ruger 1911 and for the money I really like it. I would take a look at them. I think they are around $750ish now.

Budget wise, up to $1500. Obviously, don't need to go there though if I find what I like for less. I have heard that the Ruger SR1911 is a good choice for the price.

Look into a S&W E-Series. I know there are guys that shoot competition with them, I guess they are tack drivers. Im currently saving up some money to buy one.

I'd love to pick up a full sized handgun, but those prices of 1911's are WAYYYYYY up there! I hoped to spend $500-600, not $900-$1,000 on one. It's only going to shoot targets, ya know!:;:thumbsup

I have a few and for the money I like the Rugers. You can get a Colt for close to the same money but it will be more of a plain jane. I am more of a Colt fan but my Ruger is proving to be a good one. I belive my colts will hold there value better.

I know my Kimber will out shoot my dad's legacy but that's about it.

Unless it was all in our heads when we switched guns to have a little competition.

You know BW, you're the one that talked me OUT of Glock and I kind of hate you for it.

That's scientifically impossible. I cannot talk anyone out of a Glock. That's like talking Bill Clinton out of an intern.

You did too. I wanted a 42 because I wanted a single stack which was the only single stack that Glock made and you said I should go with something else.
