Anyone use a 270 Win for long range hunting 500 to 600 yards?

Yes, 140gn TSX. I've taken 2 deer with it @ 515 and 493yds. Factory Winchester in McMillan stock w/Leupold 4.5-14x40.

600 yd 3 shot group prone over backpack:

Last fall's POA/POI confirmation @ 200yds off a bench, front rest, and sandbags:

140TSX's ~.015 into the lands, partial neck sized RP brass, Ramshot Hunter powder, WLR primers, all run on a Dillon 550.

I shoot out to 600 with 130 grain partions. Never shot a deer that far but the gong sure does bong at that range. I have also shot in high side winds and was able to consistently wack the gong at 400 to 600. I havent shot further as 600 is the max turret travel my scope has.

The .270 is more than capable of taking game at those distances. I've personally seen 3 deer taken at over 500 yards with 130 gn bullets. 2 with Sierra BT and 1 with Nosler BT. 2 were Boom Flop and 1 went 40 yards. Conditions for these shots were very good and the deer were broadside. One caveat though: MOST shooters are NOT capable of making these shots. These deer were taken by a VERY experienced shooter and I would not have taken these particular shots as I'm not confident I could make a quick kill.

Took my doe at 418 yards off the backpack this year. Square in the boiler room, she took 10 steps or so and fell over.

Back when we could have extra for tags I shot two at 800 yd. I used 150 gr Berger VLDs, and R22 which pushed the bullet at 3040fps. The Barnes manual had a load that exceeded all my other manuals, so I snuck up on that load in very small increments. I found some of the new Hornady ELD-X bullets that should be very good as long as you reach your target with a remaining 1600fps.

I didn't think they had the ELD-X available for .270.

My longest was at 400 yds. Back in the old days (mid 80s). When Hornady came out with their 140 gr. Not one of these new fanggele super bullets, but it did the trick. about -10 no wind. I laid down and used an rolled up jacket.

Not quite 500, but I killed an elk at 340 yds this year with the .270. Two 150 grain Nosler partitions in the boiler room, 15 step stagger, stone dead. T-loins on the grill. Love that gun

I don't know. I picked up 178 gr for my 300 WSM and 308. Waiting for the 212 for my 300 Win. Also watching for the 143 for the 6.5 Creedmoor. I wonder when production gets going on the ELD match if they will drop the Amax?

precision reloading has both the flavors you are looking for in stock this weekend.

Make sure you have blue tape on your muzzle and some spare wrapped around your barrel

Shot one deer out at 650 with a 130 NP. bullet went in and out without expanding, thank goodness it was a heart shot. Won't shoot deer out past 400 since then. Targets are a different thing.

Well Kurt I got one box of the 143 to try and my nephew got two boxes. I ordered new mounts for my 300 WSM so I can switch scopes, and I ordered that Vortex 1to6 Strike Eagle. Thanks again for the heads up.
