I am planning on buying a jigging rod for the upcoming season. I plan to jig for walleye in mostly rivers. I also plan to use jigs from 1/8th ounce- 3/8th ounces. My budget is pretty much less than $50.

I found scheels outfitters any with medium light action I have 3 of them one 5'4" and other at 6' 6'6" are currently on sale for 20% off. I also stay away from the 2 piece rods in not a fan on the feel of them. If you casting the 6' are best I love my 5'4" for vertical next to boat.

I tend to go with 6 foot medium action riged with braided line. This tends to give me the best feel for the jig and any lite bites. If you can find an mitchell avocet ii they are good litte combos. I bought my first one so I had a rod I could leave in the box of my truck and not care if it got busted. After fishing with it awhile I figured out it may not be fancy but it sure catches the hell out of the fish .....think I have four now.

I've have really been impressed by the Scheels Pro Angler 6'8" Extra Fast tip. I think I paid only $40 for the rod. Great tip on it that works awesome for snapping out of snags in the river.

For that price range I would look at the Fenwick Eagle series or get lucky bumping into a sale on an HMX.

^ This is good advice. A good rod will make a better fisherman. Look used on walleye central or eBay. Nothing wrong with a good used rod with lifetime warranty"
