Has anyone tried using an ipad for their gps on the boat? I assume waterproof case, navionics, wire it in for power, etc ...

Heard that you need to have a cell data style of ipad (having cell plan on ipad not needed though).

Anyone know anyone doing this? Seen it? Pros? Cons?

bad-elf.com the bad elf module plugs in the charging port. Used it on my iPad 2 for ice fishing worked pretty good. Had my iPad in a otter box defender and a ram mount. Picked one up on ebay pretty cheap. My iPad is internet only. 99.99 at the gps store.

If you don't have an iPad yet look into some kind of Android tablet... I think the navionics app on Android is like $9.99. While on Apple its $49.99.... cuz I looked on my phone (Android) and the iPad at the house and couldn't believe the difference in price .... I could be wrong ???

Navionics on Apple ios is also $9.99. Unless you want the Africa/Asia or the Europe maps for $38.99.

i wanted to, but changed my mind due to brightness...

pull out your smartphone or tablet and stand with the sun to your back and read it at arms length...
