Thinking about starting to reload .223 rounds. I'll be shooting most of the rounds out of a colt ar with a 20in barrel and a 1:9 twist. Was leaning towards a 55gr varmint round or maybe 62 gr. Just wondering if anybody has had any good luck with loads.

What are you planning on using the ammo you're loading for? Do you want to shoot paper, steel, varmints, or?

With the one in nine twist the 50 gr VMAX didn't do that well for me on coyotes. The 55 gr soft pointment, 65 gr SGK, and 60 gr VMAX were both better. I could not stabilize the Hornady 75 gr hollow point so went with a new barrel with one in eight twist. My one in nine did stabilize the 69 SMK, but the hollow point was small and didn't open reliably. I think my best load was the 65 SGK for coyote and the 50 gr VMAX for Prairie dogs.
