Paging Kentucky Windage, SDMF, et al.

A lot of Mil/LE rifle manufacturers are moving to nitride treated or melonite barrels. Word is its more durable than chrome lining, maintains better accuracy, make cleaning easier, and improves velocity. Anyone here have experience with melonite/nitride treated barrels on large caliber or long range rifles? How about high round counts?

If the usable life of a 6.5 credmor bbl is 700-1000 rounds, why not pay $75 to have it nitrided and triple the life span?

This guy had a PWS AR15 with 14" melonite bbl. After 23,000 rds, still shot 10 round group .7" with 77gr loads (long bullet probably compensated for throat erosion): http://forum.snipershide.info/showthread.php?t=68421&page=7

Some gunmakers using melonite rifle barrels in .223, .308:
PWS
LWRC
Sig Sauer
Adams Arms
Bushmaster/Remington (ACR)
Smith & Wesson
Spike's Tactical
Robinson(?)

Really? Nobody's had experience with melonite barrels? Think I just discovered a business opportunity!

I did an "Ultra Bore Coat" treatment on a factory Rem SPS tact 308 and a Lilja bbl'd 257 Wby. The 308 is over 3k rounds and still cleans up easily and shot accurately. I haven't chrono'd it in quite a while so who knows about wear, but, it's a 308. The 257 is ~700 rounds, still cleans up well and is accurate, so again, can't really say if it's decrease wear/increased bbl life 'cause I'm nowhere near the end of non-coated life for either of them.
