I have been considering purchasing one of these shooters in .308. Does anyone have experience with them? Have been considering a couple different models of the 700. Would be used as a multi purpose gun. Some deer hunting, long range shooting, maybe a coyote or two. Not needing it to hit targets at 1000 yards, and not looking to break the bank on a rifle with more/better options. Just looking for some feedback.

Thanks in advance.

I fire the Remington 700 ADL in the .308 size, with a 3-9x variable scope, and have used it for 26yrs. Bought it from my brother for $185 and haven't used it for five years. It's the only rifle I own, so I can't give you +/- to reference. Simple to use, pinpoints hides, and drops 'em like any other good-zeroed rifle.

If you purchase any factory 700 in 308 that isn't exceptionally accurate, you're one unlucky sumnagun.

So you're telling me they are good shooters?
Don't own a .308 myself but have never heard anything bad about them. Know they are fairly common caliber for long distance target shooting. That wouldn't be the case if they weren't accurate. Only other consideration I might look at in that type of caliber might be the 7MM-08. Have heard lots of good things about that caliber as well. And yes, the Remington 700 is a very good and reliable rifle.

When you combine the accuracy of the 308 round with the accuracy of a 700 you get about 198% accuracy. The 2% inaccuracy comes from the dumb bass behind the trigger. The 308 is NOT what I would call a flat shooting round, but my 308 is one of two rifles I reach for when it's time to kill stuff.

i have a Remington 700 ADL 7mm that shoots sub MOA groups to maybe 300 yards and hangs around MOA out til 600 haven't fired it much beyond that. i also have a savage model 10 predator hunter .260 Remington and that is by far the most accurate out of box rifle i have ever shot sub MOA groups up to that 800 yard range. i would strongly consider a savage if your looking at stock rifles.

the 7mm is loaded with 139 gr hornady interbond, barrel just couldnt handle match grade bullets, so its getting a new barrel this off season
.260 remington is loaded with 140gr berger VLD's

both handloaded with match grade die sets

You're just a 2%'er. That's all. (Grin)

Ha, I'm a terrible shot at the range but when it gets to the payday shot, I usually have made it. I don't own any remington's or .308's so I'm just here to be a madoqua+salti.jpg

Have a Rem. 788 in 308 bought in 1972. Have shot a ton or 2 of deer with it, from 3ft to 550 yards, does the job quite well, ammo is reasonable and plentiful, recoil is within reason, just not a flat shooting gun. If a could ever get a tag I would use it again just for old times sake.:;:thumbsup

My Ex-wife has a bunch of 700 Remingtons. All of them are accurate as hell, her 7-08 and 308 shoot sub 1" 5 shot groups.

I assume those were yours at one point, and when she left she took the good stuff! Sorry to hear.

I'm thinking of doing the sps tactical with the threaded barrel, so I can add a muzzle break, and drop in an after market trigger. Maybe the Timney or Jewell.

Nope they were her rifles.

I'm more of a Winchester model 70 kinda guy. NO way in hell was she getting any of my stuff. ;)
