After the Sig Sauer thread I decided it's time to upgrade my old wheel gun to something more accurate, I was impressed with Ruger MK IVs when I shot them but I've also shot a couple High Standards that were nice. I like antiques as long as they are of good quality, My question is, Would you say that an older Model A , B, or Duramatic High Standard is as good of quality as a Ruger IV ?

Your probably the only one on here with a High Standard db , I never heard much about them growing up but after shooting one when I was in my 30s I sure liked it.

I had the High Standard Trophy. It was more accurate than most of my 22 rifles. Now I have one of the lightweight threaded barrel Rugers. I also had the Ruger Mark IV Target. All good.

Looking online at a Duramatic M-101, it says the bore is good but no rating % wise . $ 280 shipped , I should pull the trigger on that one just because of the price but shopping is too much fun. I see parts are still available .

SDMF That must be one of the last ones made ? I like the sights on that one.

I havery 3, and have found nothing new to be anymore accurate. I'll keep them over my ruger mark II. And I am younger then all my high standards.

Do yours have adjustable sights ? I'm probably overthinking this but I'd think adjustable sights would be nice but the antiques I've been looking at have dovetail setups, Do they adjust and seem to hold ? By looking at them you wouldn't think they would be much for target but Pretty sure once I get one in my hand I'll be back into a little competition shooting so I might as well do a little homework and do I right he first time.

Not a High Standard, but a fair-to-middlin' 22 semi-auto nonetheless.

SDMF my brother has a slab sided High Standard that looks just like that. It was made for only a couple years. I believe it was called the Victor. We both bought our High Standards in 1972. I still had the box and all the paper work when I traded mine at a gun show in 1986. The guy was a High Standard collector. I paid $120 for it, and it didn't have a mark of any sort when the guy gave me $450 for it.

After a little exploring I see the S&W 41s are very worthy of stepping up to the firing line with, I surly won't rule that one out.

I did some more digging on the High Standards and the Victor is a decent target pistol. Lots of them on the firing lines and the victors are one of the few High Standards with adjustable triggers, Both the 41 and Victor are on my watch list, Even though I think the older antique High Standards look and feel neater than hell I think I better scrap that plan. I visited a buddy today and told him what I am up to and he insisted I take one of his home to see if I like it. I got some trigger time in before dark and did ok with a rest and shot a couple off hand strings at 50' , I was happy with 12 , ok with 2 and very humbled by 6 but not discouraged.

I have set my goals, Anyone here shoot pistol matches or have a desire to ?

The loaner is a Russian target Baikal izh-35m It felt pretty good.

Long story but I do consider fortunate to have. Had a trophy hi standard supermatic but gave to a family member.
to me it is really Unbelievable how well these pistols shoot. Hi standard dates to the 60.
have not shot a new pistol so no ideal how they compare. Db

Just shoot myself. I do have a couple of old Winchester model 75and52 that I would like to try but may be too old now. Just like old guns and bought a long time ago so at the time not so much monies. Thanks. Db

Just join this site and my first picture post. Only took about 2 hours to learn and pushing a lot of buttons. Now I am not sure which ones but should be faster next time. I hope. Db
