  1. Red River at Grand Forks 9-15-21

The river is still low but it is substantially better than a few weeks ago at about 700 cfs in Grand Forks. While it is still not great it is good for the fish. The catfish seem to be responding to the stable higher water quite well with many good reports coming in. Fish are being caught pretty much everywhere right now. It appears they have moved to the channel edges and more traditional spots for this time of year.

Sit times still seem to be about 30 minutes. Baits have been pretty much everything but I have noticed that frogs are better than the others.

We decided to try Audubon after a couple of slow days at Deepwater bay. was on the water at 8:00 and tried the sunken hump by the embankment. Only thing there was the pesky perch. Moved southeast to the Islands and started catching Walleye right away. First fish was a 20 incher and then smaller ones with the occasional keeper. 3 nice 17 inchers and at 2:30 caught another 20 incher for our 10 fish limit. For me any day o the lake is a great day and to catch Walleye is a bonus. They say the good Man above adds the time you spend fishing to your life. That's what I tell my wife anyway. 16 to 25 ...

We have water for now. The rains of that past couple weeks have brought the river up to over 1,000 cfs at Grand Forks and that is moving north. While it is still not a ton of water it is truly blessing for the fish to keep them going. It probably won’t last long but for now all ramps are useable. North Grand Forks and North Drayton will be useable for the next week or so with little worry of wrecking too much equipment. I am hearing from anglers all over that the fish are finally feeding aggressively and even looking a little better that just last week. As expected the catfish have moved into ...

  4. New Town area

OK, so on a somewhat spur of the moment, I decided to head back home for a day of fishing. Got to parents' place around 11, on the water at 1130 via 4Bears ramp. We tooned our way south to the south side of Reunion and trolled spinners with half or full crawler even further south for a few hours. Caught a decent number of fish, but a LOT of them were literally 6-7 inchers. But I guess we ended up with 4 keepers there, about 6 pm we hit up the east side of 4Bears bridge, again targeting 21-26 ft of water. Stepdad caught our last keeper there, so we only ended up with 5 keepers for 3 rods in ...

  5. New Town - 9/3

Fished New Town Friday 9/3 - put in at the casino ramp, ran south to Diamond Head...trolled south from DH. Pulled spinners with crawlers both live and artificial. Fish were stacked 22 to 26 fow - chartruse/orange colors were best. Had 8 in the box by 1000 - switched over to cranks. Pulled #7 flicker minnows with snap weights - caught 6 or 7 more. 10 in the box by noon...headed back to ramp. Water temps 66 degrees at 0730...69 degrees when got off water at 1230. Enjoy the last few months of open water gents - fish on!

  6. Red River 9-1-21

We have had a bit more rain and the flow is nearly double what it was last week. It appears to still not be enough for the fish to respond positively with a more consistent bite. Keep doing what you were doing to catch fish. They are still lined up on the back of inside corners just hanging out. Like the past weeks if you can find current you will find fish.

All baits were working with frog and frozen sucker being the best. This past week frog was the answer to getting bites. This is not surprising given the rains have made way for dew so there is much more frog movement during the ...

  7. Red River 8-25-21

Rains last weekend brought flows up a little bit. It’s not enough to notice really on the gauges but if you are out there every day you notice it. The fish have responded to the little influx very positively. Still if you can find current you find more fish. They are still lined up on that inside shelf as well. It seems the active fish will go fairly quickly but don’t leave to fast as there might be another one along soon.

All baits were working with frog and frozen sucker being the best. I would give the edge to sucker but I don’t think it really matters.

    The highlight ...

Flow in Grand Forks as of this writing is 204cfs. I figure a matter of days before we go below the lows of 1988. Catfish are biting if you are patient, most of them are smaller with the occasional bigger fish mixed in. They still look kind of sick. The one noticeable difference this week from last week is the fish are lined up on inside corners near beaver houses. Generally, if you run side imaging in these areas you will see cats lined up on the third of the river near the bank. Just because you see fish on the depth finder but it doesn’t mean that they will bite so you have to keep on the move ...

  9. New Town

Fished Saturday and Sunday for about 2 hours each trip. It was borderline miserable with the heat so we opted to spend most of each day swimming with the niece and nephew.
Went about a mile west of antelope flats on Saturday and got into a bad rash of catfish pulling crawlers/spinners. Every time the pole wiggled it was a catfish on the end of the line. Talk about frustrating. Only one small walleye on the whole pass.
Sunday we pulled cranks from Hunts Along down to Diamondhead. We marked a ton of fish and caught a handful of nice walleye in the 26’ to 23’ depth range. We saw a lot ...

  11. Red River 8-12-21

Flow in Grand Forks as of this writing is 240cfs down even more after the inch of rain a few days ago. The fish are biting if you are patient, most of them are smaller with the occasional bigger fish mixed in. That fish has a big head and is skinny and pretty sad looking. The key to fish now is work the outer edges to the middle of smaller holes where the river is narrower. If you can find spots where the river gets very narrow and creates current you should find fish. You have to try lots of spots. You can see fish on the depth finder but it doesn’t mean that they will bite so you have to keep ...

A couple of buddies and I fished on Saturday. We focused our efforts out towards the river, and ended up having a very fun day. We pulled cranks all day, and had our best luck in that 23-24 fow range, pulling flicker shads at 2.2-2.3 mph.

We worked a number of spots, and probably caught 50 'eyes on the day. I'd say over half of them were 16-16.5". Cookie cutter lunch fish, with a few smaller, and a few bigger, although we did not catch a single fish over 20" on the day.

The water temps are warm, of course, in that 75 degree range.

    We did try ...
