Did some fishing today, with a buddy, on Lake Audubon. We did not wake up early, and we did not fish late. We got out there after the day had warmed up a bit, and headed for home as the wind started to pick up, but we had a fun day, caught some walleye, and one nice pike that drug the little dingy boat around for a bit. Most of the fish were on jig/minnow, but one came on the hyper rattle. I always look forward to this time of year. There is something pure and fun about fishing out of the little dingy boat. Hopefully get another trip or two in it before ...

  2. Audubon

A group of us went to Audubon just for the late evening. We caught 8 'eyes in total, and a smallie. They were deeper than we expected, in about 20 fow. Jigging spoons and minnows mostly.
The North Lake had a bunch of open water, but where we were was 2+ feet of ice. The ice was certainly soft and auger'd up in cubes.
Guessing it will go fast now.

A lot of folks around the culvert. We were more in the Velva Point area.

A few of us fished Audubon, Sunday evening. We ended up catching 8 walleye, and a few pike. All on jig/minnow. We were fishing pretty shallow, in 5-10 fow.

A buddy and I caught a couple eyeballs on the east end.

There is around 6" of what seemed to be good ice to me.

  5. Audubon Culvert

A few of us took our dingy boats out to the Audubon culverts again, yesterday morning for a few hours. It wasn't gang-busters, but we did catch a handful of walleye, a few cisco, a couple nice smallies, and 2 big pike.

Most of the guys were using jig and minnow, but there were a number of fish caught on jig and plastic.

  6. Audubon Culvert

A buddy and I took his duck boat onto Audubon and fished the culvert last night. Had about 50' of shoreline open. I guess it had been more earlier but the wind pushed the ice in a bit. We both jigged minnows. Ended up with 4 nice sized males. All on green/white jig and minnow. Guessing that spot is just getting started. Probably be good for next week or two.

There was a couple guys on shore casting jig/plastic that caught 5 (I think).

Went on by the cabins. Pulled the mini-bego out for its maiden voyage. Was out last night and this morning. Fishing was not great. But we were able to move around the lake pretty good with the pickup. Snow isnt too terrible.

Going to try some more options out there, and see if we can get dialed in.

I keep hearing that the south side is producing, but not sure about the snow on that side.

  8. East Audubon

We started at Douglas. Caught a few perch, a couple pike, and a skip-jack. We packed up and went to Aud. Fished just west of Velva Bay in 5-12 fow. It was fairly steady from 4:30 'til dark. My uncle and I ended up keeping 9 walleye and 3 pike. Caught almost everything on the dead-sticks.

Ice was about a foot thick. We were fishing about 50 feet away from what looked to be open water. I am guessing there was some ice under it ... maybe.

We walked out. I wouldn't even dare with the snowmobile.

Hit Aud this morning for a few hours. Worked the Velva point area. Setup on a flat that had quick access to deeper water. Found 4 13" walleye. Threw them back, but it was still fun. Plenty of ice to drive on (where I was anyway). I am going to give it a longer day out there tomorrow.

  10. Audubon - 3 Mile Bay

Myself and a buddy hit up 3 mile bay on Audubon. It was slow. It was a dead calm, and sunny. Not sure if that affected things. We were marking fish all over but it was tough to get them to bite. Ended with 2 keeper walleye and a nice northern pike. Worked everything from 3 ft to 30 ft. Caught the keepers in about 13 ft. We didn't stay for the dusk bite, so who knows. I heard that it has been real good down there. A buddy went to North Lake (basically a sub-section of Audubon) and caught 3 walleye. One 27" male that he threw back. I guess there was a herd of boats huddled together ...

  11. Audubon is looking good.

4/17/15 Put in on the NE end by the cabins. I don't have safe trails on my map for Aud so I took er slow. Pretty easy to ruin a prop on Aud. My 2 boys and I went out for a few hours in the afternoon. Beautiful day. Caught a nice 4lb walleye and a bass. We put em both back. Looked walleye was a female full of eggs. Stopped at 6 Mile corner and got a report. Stop there when you can. They are great about helping point folks in the right direction.

Sounds like we should have been by the bridge between Aud and N Lake. Talked to a couple boats that made a killing there. Nice size too. ...
