Just curious if any of you guys have had much success using them on Lake Sakakawea, I have yet to catch a walleye on one on the big lake. I know people crush fish on them over at Devils but I can't buy a fish on one on Sak.

What sizes do you use? I just started using them last year and curious on size, color or any other helpful tips.

I always try to use the smallest size i can in any situation while still being able to feel the bottom. Blue and white seems to be my go to for jigging raps. I think some guys like to cut the front hook by the nose off because they can get hooked on the ice but I haven't experimented with that yet. I have noticed when the fish are on the feed it takes a more aggressive jigging action than say a lindy rattling flyer or buckshot, but I did experience some success with them last year.

Here is how you fish them. Snap them on your line and drop them down and then jig them. End of story.

You're a tiller man so jig under your transducer like you are ice fishing to watch a fish's reaction. Change up your cycle times and throw a pause in on the bottom here and there until you figure out what they want.

I used one this weekend for a while. Hit the anchor mode one terrova over suspended smelt and had my ice vex with me. Number 7 jig rap shows up real well. Didn't catch any but didn't try long either.
I am sure it would work on Sak in the summer. Just need to find fish stacked up feeding or set up in known high percentage areas and wait it out.
Question: you guys tip with bait in the summer? I had mine tipped with small piece of crawler. Winter I always use a minnow head.

Thanks Ahab. I'll give it a shot this weekend.

Its a good idea to "up size" the trebles on these jigs,#6,#7 and #9's in perch pattern is a great starter.

Have used them on sak tipped wih a minnow head. Smallest size possible. I rip them about a foot. In the winter I will use the camera to see how they want it jigged . Sometimes I rip it to bring them in then slow it down to a vibrate when they are in close. Using a camera has helped me detect faint bites. They sometimes inhale it momentarily and then release it.
It's a great lure when fished right!
