When do you officially call it a summer? If you have kids, is it when they start school? When you done harvesting? After the 4th? When temps stay below 80? Or do you go by the calendar.

Since I don't have kids, my summer calendar ends at the end of sept. Sept usually has an Indian summer and the temps are still up there till about mid sept.

Just be interesting to see when everyone calls it a summer.

Nice question! My kids are grown and I don't farm so I would have to say summer ends for me right after Labor day and right before Grouse opener. Summer goes quickly but I love fall so I don't mind.

As far as fishing out of the boat the end of august. With goose season and bow hunting I don't have time to get the boat out. Never stopped me from taking a quick trip to the river tho. My oldest kids last day of summer is today he starts school tomorrow.

As far as boat fishing and going to the lakes I don't stop until the ice keeps me off the water. It's always our goal to go musky fishing the day after Thanksgiving--it seems like it works out once every couple years.

What feels like the end of summer for me is when I start bird hunting, so opening dove feels like that transition.

Mentally checked out of summer a few weeks ago. Fall is my favorite season so I try to make it come sooner.

As soon as Sturgis is over.
Used to be once the kids started cross country.
Days are certainly getting shorter. Hunting antelope this weekend, fall is here.

I prefer the camping season most after labor day. The camp grounds are quiet, the jet skis are gone, the pontoons are all winterized, and the fishing is getting good again as the water cools.
We stop usually around the end of Sept. I have camped into the mid of October, but the days are pretty short, the furnace runs in the camper most of the day, and the kids run out of patience in the boat.

Just about another season in the books.

As soon as possible. Bring on the flannel! I'd say archery opener, even though I haven't bowhunted for a few years.

I never call it just hope for the best to extend it as long as possible. Can't wait for the day I can move to Florida's SW gulf coast for year round summer and water.

Headed back to work at Simonsen's next week, so summer comes to an end. Anyone want a discount on walking tacos? Big J?

I don't like summer. I prefer to think of it as late spring or early fall. Too damn hot.
Agreed. Too hot. I know, it gets too cold too, but I can dress for that. Fishing in my underwear in the tailrace is nothing to behold, eh dirty?

To answer the question, when school starts. Next Thursday in Bismarck.

I consider summer over at the end of Labor Day weekend. It's because I love FALL so much; I hate heat! I so wish fall could be four months long, with daily highs at 65. :;:exactly Fall goes away too fast. By Halloween we're already into frost, ice storms, and wearing coats. Uggh!!

The weather always seems to fall apart after Labor Day. Plus the sun is setting before 8:30, which means it is dark before 9. A couple weeks later the Canadian air mass starts making it's way south, the smell and bite in the air is just depressing, because you know summer weather is done and not coming back for at least 8 months. The longest I've gone before feeling the need to winterize is thanksgiving, but I like to do it before the road salt comes out. Hunting just doesn't get me excited, rather live in a continuos Memorial Day to Independence Day loop.
