  1. van hook (15July2017)

dumped the boat in at 0630 last Saturday and fished til about 1600. We did nothing but pull cranks but a fun day was had. Boated over 50 walleyes with the biggest 5 in the 21 to 23" range. Didn't touch a crawler all weekend so I had a smile on my face. 20 FOW seemed to be the magical depth but all speeds seemed to trigger fish to bite. Colors changed a lot throughout the day so keep those plano trays handy.

  3. Lake Oahe - Hazelton (17Sep2016)

My neighbor and I concocted a plan to go fishing on Saturday while we sat around at beerfest. After pushing back the departure time a bit, we got on our way to hazelton around 9:45. I was surprised at how many boats were in the main channel by the ramp. Fished with a jig and minnow. Chartreuse seemed to be better than anything else. I did pull cranks by eckroths but didn't have a single bite. We ended up catching 15 walleyes and saugers but only kept 7 between 15-17". I did hook into one catfish that put up a good fight.

Almost every fish puked up what looked like a gizzard ...

Tried a little salmon fishing again and it wasn't a complete waste of time. The alarm went off at 3:45 AM much to my dismay. I met my father in Washburn and a friend in riverdale as neither of them have caught a salmon in some time. We were the 2nd boat out of government bay but there there a couple shore fisherman already casting.

Bright lures seems to be best. Bomber Long A and 800 reef runners worked better than anything else.

We casted for almost 2 hours in government before we left to troll some big cranks. We ended up with one 8 lber by the overlook ...

  5. Lake Oahe Casino Area (19JUN2016)

Met up with HuffRanger and his son to put the hurting on a few Oahe walleyes. I was a little foggy before I left and forgot both my graphs. Luckily, Huff has an extra hds8 that fits onto my bow mount. Unluckily, we will be running blind while on plane. The fun didn't stop there. I got to purify myself in the waters of lake oahe at the ramp. Forgot to screw the plug in. Onto the actual fishing report.

We traveled south of the casino to find a nice mudline. 15-24 FOW pulling slow death and spinners at about .8-1.3. We kept 4 walleyes, threw 4 back along with half a dozen ...

  6. Beaver bay Oahe (9JUN2016)

My mom had been begging me to get out on the water for quite a while now. My old man is healing up from surgery and can't do much yet. Mom,dad and I put in at beaver bay and stayed pretty close to the ramp. Pulled cranks south a ways and picked up a northern on a jointed #5 rap and that's about it. Lost one slow death rig to a northern and had two other bites that shook it before I could see what they were. Nice to be ok the boat but no walleyes.

  7. Lake Oahe (1MAY2016)

Headed to Hazelton to gain a little confidence back. What I found was another blow to the self esteem. Two fish in 3 hours of fishing. Pitched jig/minnows/plastics for the first two hours and didn't get a sniff. Slipped the current and picked up two small males. Decided to head home after that.

  8. Missouri River (south of Bismarck) 30APR2016

Launched from Fox Island around 6:30 AM and stuck within a few miles of the ramp. Only managed four males and two were close to the size of the minnows we had. Half and half crank/jig bite. Water was pretty dirty and it seemed like fish wanted a bunch of movement or no movement.

  9. Missouri River (south of bismarck) 06MAR2016

Feels great to be making my first open water report of the year. Fished on Sunday, MARCH 6TH. Unreal to be on the water already but it was great to make a long run down the river in the new rig. Thankfully I had someone to follow as I have never ran in between the rifle range and hazelton. I managed to pick up one at the rifle range while waiting for a friend to unload. Once we made it south, I picked up two more very quickly with one having some jewelry attached. And that's when the catching stopped. Hit one more spot on the way back but couldn't fill the box any more. The three fish ...

  11. Beaver bay 27DEC2015

Well I finally got on the ice this season. Started with an hour and a half drive to a slough by streeter. Marked a fish and that's it. Moved to west lake where I marked nothing but one guy in our group got a perch and nice slough shark. Decided to go to beaver bay for evening feast. Holy hell for busy. Lots of permanents getting dragged out with four wheelers and one balsy/slow in the head gentleman decided his F250 and ice castle is light enough on 6-7 inches. We set up in 11-13 feet of water and finally felt a tug on my line. Had a nice walleye rocket off the bottom to inhale one of my lipless ...

  12. Alkaline (5Sep2015)

My friend and I picked Saturday to fish because earlier in the week, it looked to be the most promising day in the forecast. We were wrong. Misty skies with a 15-20 mph easterly wind. We kinda struggled to boat fish right away using spinners and slow death hooks but did manage to catch a few. After a couple hours, we decided to pull out the cranking rods and finished the day with some nice 19"-16" fish. Fish came out of anywhere from 5 ft to 17 ft. We focused mainly on weed lines but rocky points did produce some fish.
