Ice and access are both excellent. Fishing not so much. Been there twice for the afternoon bite the last couple weeks. 1 walleye each time. Wish the fishing was better because the access is so good….oh well.
My daughter and I tried the East end this morning. We couldn’t find fish. 1 small walleye and a couple of smallies. We hit a few islands and a few spots along Mallard that have always produced in the past. We had one couple tell us they limited in a couple hours this morning by Stahnke. We were pulling spinners in every depth and pitching jigs towards shore when it was a bit shallower. Was a beautiful day though!
6 inches of ice on New John’s. Fished a couple hours this afternoon. A bunch of little perch. 2 keeper eyes and lost a couple more keepers. Fun evening.
I put in at Wolf Creek about 7am. Picked up a 20” fairly early and then nothing but dinks the rest of the day. Caught quite a few, just couldn’t find any more keepers. Fished spots on both sides of Mallard including sunken islands. Color of spinner didn’t seem to matter too much.
Fished South of Bismarck for a few hours on 11/23. Four fish from 26-28 all released, kept a limit of 15-16”. Beautiful day to be out!
The bite is still good at Alkaline. Went with my daughter early on Saturday. We we on the water before 7:00 and were the 12th rig there. We left at noon and counted over 60! What a cluster that little ramp can be with that many people. Oh well, we came home with a limit or really healthy fish 16-19”.
Finally got the boat wet this year. Got in at Beaver at about 2:00. Caught at least a dozen in about 3 hours. Only had one under 14”. Most were 15-17”. 50/50 on jig or BB. Kept a nice limit of eaters. Great start to my open water season!
Hit up New Johns last night for evening bite. Seems to have slowed quite a bit since last week. Kept 3 nice eaters. All came from jigging in 14’. Nothing on top ups or dead stick for me. Just shy of 12” of ice. Saw one guy had driven on.
Finally made it out yesterday around 4:00. Me and a buddy fished until about 9 and put 9 nice eaters in the box. Nothing big and none were milking. Caught most in the spot north of the Expy bridge. I got all of mine on a white plastic and a small northern on a lindy rig.
I headed out to Alkaline yesterday along with the rest of the state...lol. I fished it quite a bit last summer, along with the rest of the state. I caught 3-4 pike all summer long. I caught 10 yesterday and got bit off by two more. One of the ones that bit me off in my shack took one of my tip ups about 40 yards away an hour later so I got my lure back! Take that slimer! Any mark that acted more like a walleye would come off the bottom, sniff my jig and not bite. Weather was pretty brutal too. My buddy tried to join me after lunch but couldn’t see far enough across the lake due to snow ...
Hit the river yesterday morning. Tried lots of different presentations. Got a couple on jigs, my partner snagged one snapping up a jigging rap. Caught most fish on a B.B. and spinner with a minnow. Kept 7 nice fish before having to leave. Most fish were pretty shallow.
I intended to get out yesterday and it didn't happen so I went today instead! Put in at Woof Creek about 8:30. I was the only boat on the water that I could see until about 10:00. Action was mediocre. I managed a limit 15-18". Picked up a few other species as well. Most fish came on an orange smile blade or a yellow spinner. Tried snap jigging a while but just wasn't marking many fish so I just trolled around in 25-30' of water and picked up the occasional fish. Beautiful day on the water.
