  1. Muddin' 2018

Spent the weekend at my nephews graduation with the family and when I returned home after all that "Socializing and Good Behavior" I had to hit the river. I arrived at 8:30ish and by the time it got dark I had one nice fat 18" walleye, 2 smallies, 2 gators, and another small musky. Them muskies aren't going to last long if they keep whackin' lures like they do. Both times I've been to this spot I've caught a musky. All fish came on an orange 1/8th oz jig with a white paddletail and they all hit like heavy weights in the exact same current seam about 15 ft from my shoes. I fan ...

  2. Muddin' 2018

With the weather being so nice I hit the river to film a couple more clips and tangle with some fish. The river has come up about a foot in total today, but when I arrived this morning it had only come up about 5 inches which made a perfect current seam for me to fish. Boy were the fish stacked up in the hole today. I caught 7 pike, 5 smallies, a white bass, and 4 nice 14-15 inch walleyes. Everything hit an 1/8 th oz jig and twister tail. I used purple, white, and yellow today. After about 4 hours of fising, the river had come up another 7 or so inches which condensed the current seam to ...

  3. Muddin' 2018

Hit the Sheyenne today and it was a small fish whackpalooza. Used about everything in the box and it all resulted in more 22 inch pike than a guy should have to deal with, 12 inch walleyes by the bushel basket, 8 inch smallies whenever I wanted to put the lure in a particular area, a couple bullheads and one lone redhorse sucker. I tried a bobber rig, jigs with twisters, paddle tails, and sliders, and a catfish rig with a chunk of crawler. All caught basically the same sized fish. The river is down about 5 inches and the current is VERY diminished which isn't a good thing for catching the ...
  4. Musky Muddin' 2018

Hit the Sheyenne again, but went to another spot for a change of scenery. Didn't catch a single walleye, but I caught more hammer handles than I care to talk about, 2 nice 6 lb gators (Kept), 3 white bass, 3 smallies to 17 inches, and honest to God, 2 muskies. I about filled my drawers when the first one slid to shore and when the second one popped up about 5 minutes later, I knew I'd used up a good portion of my luck for the day. Both muskies were under 26 inches, but they were/are the "Holy Grail" of fish in the Sheyenne as far as I'm concerned. One hit a purple 3 inch twister ...

  5. Muddin' 2018

After my daughters band concert this evening I decided to hit the Sheyenne to see if the bite was still on. It was!! The walleyes are still in the chewing mood and tonight it was the 4.5 inch white paddle tail on an orange long shank 1/8th oz jig that fit the bill. Tried a crank and a 3 inch twister, but the walleyes were having none of that noise. Kept a limit of 15-17 inchers and threw back a couple dozen smaller eyes along with a couple 3-4 lb gators. It was steady action and the bites were ferocious. Hope this keeps up for at least a week or so. Tight Lines Everyone!!!

  6. Muddin' 2018

After grilling some ribeyes for the mother of my child for mothers day, she graciously set me free to check on the Sheyenne to see what else was cookin'. I found the walleyes to be ready, willing, and able to put a fantastic capper on Mother's Day. They were hitting just about everything I threw at'em. I caught fish on an 1/8th oz yellow jig w/ a white twister, a purple jig w/ a purple twister, a silver and black crank bait, and a long shank 1/8th oz orange jig with a 4.5 inch white paddletail. The crank bait produced the best, which was a nice surprise. Most fish were 13 and smaller, but ...
  7. Muddin' 2018

Hit the Sheyenne this evening for a bit of solitude and relaxation. The river has dropped about 10 inches and the walleyes were ready to bite. An 1/8th oz yellow jig head with a 3 inch white twister ended up being the ticket after I tried a 4.5 inch white and blue paddle tail on a white jig head, an orange jig head with a 3 inch yellow twister, and a long shank 1/8th oz orange jig head with a 4 inch pumpkin twister. Caught about a dozen small walleyes and three gators. Kept my 5 walleyes which included a fat 14 incher up to a skinny 17 incher. The bites were hard and aggressive. None of ...

  8. Muddin' 2018

Hit the Sheyenne yesterday and the little males were cooperative. Latched onto 14 of them using an orange 1/8th oz jig and fathead colored paddle tail. Lost just as many with short strikes. Things were going well until the river came up about 4 inches and screwed up the whole deal. All the fish moved elsewhere. Kept 4 between 15 and 17. Walleye........it's what's for dinner!! Tight Lines Everyone!!

  9. Muddin' in the snow

With the bright sun, light wind, and enjoyable temps I decided to hit the Sheyenne for the second time this year. The first time out was several weeks ago and I managed only one 12 inch walleye. It was fun to flex the long poles a bit and I really didn't expect to catch anything, but was pleasantly surprised. I went out today with the exact same expectations and was again, pleasantly surprised. I used my trusty 1/8th oz jig in white tipped with a minnow and plucked two 12 inch walleyes from the cold depths of the river. Actually the fish were in about 2 ft of water. No arm jarring strikes, ...

  10. Fall Muddin' #2

Hit the Sheyenne this afternoon hoping for a repeat performance of last night, but alas it twas not to be. I did catch my limit of walleyes (5), but the two smallest were 13 and 15 inches so I turned them loose. Ended with a 16, an 18, and a 23 incher. Caught fish on 1/8th oz jigs and twister tails or paddle tails with the big one falling for an original rapala in black and silver. The twisters and paddle tails were white or white black combos. Tangled with a bunch of white bass throughout the day along with a couple bullheads that just HAD to goober up my line for me. Snot Balls!!! Anyway, ...

  11. Fall Muddin'

Getting your archery deer early DOES have it's advantages. With the sun finally making an appearance I decided to hit the Sheyenne to see what the fall walleyes were doing. I found them cooperative. I made my first cast at 2pm and was finished by 5. Saltwater assassin paddle tails in some derivation of white on an 1/8th oz jig head was the ticket. I tried shallow shadraps, original rapalas, and a few other crank baits and didn't get a single bite. I caught 8 walleyes before I threw in the towel between 15 and 19 inches. The fish were spread out all over the place and I took fish on flats, ...
  12. Devils Lake 17 Aug 2017

Had a buddy that wanted to fish DL so with the weather being nice and it being to wet to goose hunt, I called him up and we left the house before dawn. Met my Dad up there and dropped baits just as the sun peeked up. Caught hundreds of walleyes, 2 northers, and a fair sunburn throughout the day. Bottom bouncers were the game of the day with most of the fish being 12 inches and shorter. Managed our limits of 15-18 inchers, but it took all day and several spots to do it. Fished the towers, the road by Grahams Island, The golden highway, several shorelines, and some deep points. Fished from ...
