Whoa...
I really firmly believe whichever one you're on.
If I lived out east and wanted fishing with no pressure, it wouldn't be on a lake and it wouldn't be in a boat, and KDM would be north of me.

all depends on your style of fishing, if you're a specie snob (walleye only), do you fish with bait, lures, do you have a boat, etc...

Not where I'd like to be
I believe Devils Lake and anywhere on the Mizzou are the standard answers. For me it's closer to run down to the SD glacial lakes, so that's where I spend my time.
I doubt you're gonna find anyone giving up specific honey holes on a public forum...

Not a big lake guy, but when I lived in Fargo I fished the confluence of the Maple and Sheyenne Rivers quite a bit. It's a community hole, but it gives up some fish. You can fish anywhere from the Dam on the Maple to the actual spot where the two rivers meet and you should catch something. It's north of West Fargo off County 20 I think. Google earth is your friend on these types of deals. I spent quite a bit of time at the North Dam in Fargo as well. Kind of snaggy, but with a bit of practice you can get the hang of it. If that's not to your liking, there are several smaller bodies of water within 60 miles of fargo that hold catchable sized fish. Good Luck!!!

It's called the "Polite Stage": Juanner and Hunt have grown weary. Gee. Perhaps Gi.

The best water is the one you know the best. In your case, start with waters smaller than DL or the Sak. They are both big with a lot more non-productive water than active water. Actually, the number if fish/acre is usually greater on smaller lakes, but the big water is usually better for fish size. the annual fishing issue of ND Outdoors should be on newsstands. That, or the NDG&F website have lots of information to help you get started.

I have to take the opposite opinion imo the devils lake sak oahe mo. All have more consistancy for walleye then the smaller lakes. Depending on time of year of course. Spring and june the area river lakes can be good but mid july bite on dl no small lake or river will compare. As far as size. U end up breaking down any piece of water regardless hiw big or small to an area that u r going to fish zig zag a shorline boom

If you are looking for a small lake to fish in ND check out the stocking reports. Its like perch fishing in the winter some lakes will sit with little or no fish then bang fish left and right then bang dead sea for years. Its all about timing.

I meant you and Juanner seemed to step out of the polite stage of the group dynamic a bit early! I don't know how long the excitement can be sustained with threads about favorite bobbers and fishing line. How many threads do y'all believe are "over there" about favorite fishing line? It gets a little stale. I also don't agree with politics being buried on here. The stuff we "discussed" was pertinent to American traditions and values which directly or indirectly affect our world as sportsman. I have just pissed in my pants and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

First one to name the movie gets a FINE thumbs up from yours truly!

Without knowing the size of his boat and his boating skills, I recommended lakes smaller than ND's two biggest. Those are the lakes I spent most time with for 30 years, but I had a marine band radio with weather channels, and a kicker OB that could get me home if the main OB had a problem. My 17 1/2' boat was never too big, and sometimes border line in size. I spent more time at speeds less than 10MPH than I did wide open every year that we lived 16 miles south of Sakakawea.
Douglas Creek Bay on Sakakawea is bigger than Otter Tail Lake, MN (MN's 9th largest). West Bay of DL is no place to get caught down wind of your trailer if a storm kicks up.

I fished sak, oahe, audubon and dl with a 16footer 40hp for many years. You have multiple accesses that you can put in and get out of the wind --- plus you can fish close to the ramp and catch fish. Long runs are not required to catch fish. If your used to Minnesota fishing ---- ND is bonehead fishing --- at least that is what all the sotas I fish with call it. Drop a line and you have a waldo. I have to admit - I suck fishing walleyes in MN - Hero one day and a loser the next day.
