So, I was on Audubon yesterday, and the weeds had to be fought from 13' of depth and shallower. What tactics should a guy use for getting those fish hiding in the weeds ?

We couldn't pull lindy's. Everything would moss up or weed up instantly. Tried pitching jigs and retrieving at a pace that would stay just above the weeds. Also trued running the edge of the weed line but that was deeper than I wanted to be.

Pitch jigs to the weed pockets once you catch an "Indicator Fish" by trolling and have identified a fish holding area.

Slow-troll a crank right over the tops of the weeds. Keep the rod in your hand and when you feel you're getting into the weeds give it a good rip. That rip will sometimes create a nice reaction bite.

I would also try to find the very edge of them and vertical jig or very slowly pull lindy's right on the edge.

It's already that weedy? Last year was one of the better years for weeds out there, I was hoping it was cleaning up.

Just got a pic from my brother, he just caught an 8 pound 28 incher up there from shore within the last half hour. Says she appeared spawned out. Thumbs Up

Tell him congrats! I've heard of a few 10 lb'ers coming out of there. Fun stuff!

If you're fishing for snakes use a lure called a Norman Weed Walker. It is a top water bait with an inverted hook that is actually out of the water when you retrieve it. We used it for muskies in MN over the top of cabbage. The pike would come out of the deep water and absolutely hammer them.
