What brand/weight of oil are you guys running in Honda generators? Manual recommends 10w30, but thinking 5w30 would be better for winter use.

Dont forget a magnetic dip stick. They will catch any fine tails floating around the crankcase.

I run this in all of my small engines year round. Lawn mowers to generators.

Thanks for the help guys. A few more questions. Do you leave your generator exposed out on the ice all the time, or do you try and shield it somehow from the elements. I've heard of wrapping a rug around it (not the exhaust obviously) to help with blowing snow, etc. Anyone do this or something similar? Also, is it worth buying auxiliary gas tank for weekend trips?

I've heard/seen people taking a cheap tote and cutting a hole for the exhaust. Then flipping it over and using that to block it from the wind and snow. I personally just keep it tucked in the truck box with the tonneau cover truck faced into the wind. I don't use a extended run tank on mine, feel there a little spendy once you get the cap, hose, tank. I'm fine with topping it off every 6-7 hours if I plan on using it that long. In ECO I can get 10+ hr's of run time on a tank.

That is what should be done with all that are running generators on the lakes. Vibrations of numerous running can ruin a bite real quick.
