European pike. Oldie but a goodie. Dream to catch one like that! At least I always heard it was a European one, they have huge pike there.

Yup. This one has been floating around for 10 years.

Why do European fish get so big anyway? They have 40 inch Zander, 3 1/2 pound perch and these huge northern.....what gives?

I suspect a LOT fewer recreational anglers have their own boats. Genetics play a part but so does lower pressure I think.

A couple other things I've read are the mild weather year around and also a lot of the forage comes up from the ocean and contains a higher fat content. I don't know so much about that but maybe a combination of all these things for a perfect storm of perch, zander and pike.

That fish was caught in Holland at least 10 years ago, and I do believe it was featured on the cover of a popular pike n musky fishing magazine.

genetics and optimal cool temps year round for double the growing season, they are a different specie and when compared side by side even look different, just like the European perch
