Top presentation and location pattern for targeting early June walleye on the shallow glacial lakes of South Dakota. Finding fish in 4 to 6 feet of water on shoreline flats with clumps of emerging weed growth. Using the Lowrance Active Target 2 and fan casting Northland Fishing Tackle’s Tungsten Stand Up Short Shank Jig paired with an Eye Candy Jigging Crawler. Using a Scheels Outfitters One Limited Spinning Rod 6’6” Medium Fast with 8 lb. Suffix 832 Braid.
These shallow walleye are often moving and aggressive. Because these fish were often spooking from the boat in shallow water, casting away from the boat was important. This region of eastern South Dakota near Watertown has many good walleye lakes that fish similar. Fishing with guide Joe Unzen and stayed at “The Loft” in Clark, South Dakota.
