I need a work boat and noticed a 13' x 56" flat bottom john boat for sale. Are they as stable as they look?

Had one for years and the problem with them is that almost all the weight is by the transom. You, the motor, and the gas which makes the front stick up to the point you almost have to stand up to see where you are going. If you could put the gas in front with the anchor or some other counter balance it would help and yes, they are very stable for moving around the boat.

Hell, after adding a kicker and an extra battery even my 1775 pro-v needed a couple sandbags in the front storage to ride right. Felt weird loading sandbags into the boat but the right amount up front kept the bow down in rough water without causing it to spear.

Thanks fellas, sounds like they are what I am looking for. I'm thinking I'll hold off on this one and hope for a good deal on a 16 footer . That extra

Curious what kinda work you plan on using it for? I have a twelve foot w/trolling motor and an anchor in the front. I use at lakes that are down long gravel roads that I don’t wanna pull the glass boat down. Its getting to where I’d rather just fish out of the Jon boat. Lol. I did have a standard hull twelve footer at one time and actually fell out of the damn thing. The Jon boat is definitely more stable. Especially with “56 beam. Should be plenty stable

Doing some clean up on a shoreline with trees. Mostly just to drag a cable out and latch on to deadfall. Probably give it to the grand kids to use for fishing when we finish the project
