Why would you need to cut your shells? Couldnt you just purchase shells for what ever your hunting, such as slugs or #2 etc? Just curious if its really needed?
It's a poor man's hack deal. Dad said they'd shoot through a F/FC and work for 25yds. I wouldn't use any constriction for the cuts and whatever I thought necessary for the intended bird bbl. This is one argument for dbl triggers I can

Back in Dad's day they were all single bbls in the Hills: Iver Johnson, Savage, JC Higgins etc. Dad carried one of the nicer ones--a M37 Winchester.
