Might be gonna hafta dust off the 'ol .270 since it's #1.

Nah, it doesn't get dusty and I was gonna use it anyway no matter where it came in.

270 win with a Barnes 129gr LRX or even a 110gr TTSX would be a mighty fine combination.
Hornady 130 gr Interlocks is all I shoot in my 270.

I keep thinking I should spin the barrel off and turn it into a 284 Win. But what would I gain??

270 has been my go to deer rifle for nearly 30 yrs but the last two deer harvested were with a Winchester model 100 - 284 that I inherited from my father when he passed and a 308, both were taken in the 300 yd range.

What would you gain? Holy Christmas are you serious?? What would you gain? I can't believe you even have to ask!!!

Lapua Brass.

Nothing regarding projectile performance though.

But there's a good chance you'd get the opportunity to pull the action from the stock 15-20 times while you monkey with the mag-box lips getting the 284 to feed.......

I have 100's in those chamberings as well, will dust them off someday. I know it's been at least 2 decades since either were fired and lord only knows how long it's been since they've actually been hunted.

ver had a feed issue. I see the 284 feed just as good. And I have 500 rds of 6.5 x 284 Lapua brass I could size up. With all that said, the deer would be just as dead with the 270 as 284.

I'm just trying to talk myself out of another build. I do have the .284 barrel.

Just as long as it’s not an unethical 243
Does a 243 WSSM count in that too? :ROFLMAO:. I've killed more deer with that rifle in the last 20 years then all my other rifles put together! A good buddy of mines dad couldn't believe I would shoot something that light for does.

My father had the complete set - 243, 308, and 284. I was given the 284 while two of my brothers were each given one. Neither brother still hunts so one ended up giving me the 308 while my younger brother still sits on the 243.

Probably shot more deer with a 22-250 when I was young and we walked a lot. What it lacked in knock down it made up for in speed and accuracy for shorter and running shots. But now we mostly hunt from blinds so I’ve been shooting a 264 win mag with 130 grain sierras. Most shots are 200-400 yards and it’s been great for that.

In the 270 class myself. But I would say whatever rifle you shoot "the best", would be considered The Best Mule Deer Rifle.
