Anyone out or have seen or heard about ice conditions on small or even the big lakes after this heat and wind?

My kid was out on the big lake by lunds landing day before yesterday. When they got there and drilled they had 14” of ice. The first few hours the current was really strong then it died completely off. When they went to leave the the ice was 11”

30 years ago i was fishing just east of west hole on the river... drilled my furthest hole 20' from an open water eddie and had 11" with very little current... pulled the tipup 2 hours later and the ice was down to 2"... 15 minutes later and i'd have been chum...

that's when i realized. they sell fish...

i no longer perform death defying acts for something i can buy...

Saw a pic today where a wheel house was broken through on New Johns. It was hanging on the ice by the hitch!

I was at 2 small lakes today. The first was riddled with open water spots. I was told it went from 11" last week to 6" today. I didn't even unload the gear. The second lake was same deal, huge open water spots. Unless you can find a extremely sheltered arm in a back bay I believe hardwater season is over untill we get an extended cold snap again. At least for me it is.

Jamestown area pond I tried to hit up on Saturday morning had open water around the shore and was April-looking dark ice.....looked like some open spots in the middle as well. I was just there the Saturday before and it was 10-12" solid clear ice.

Took the boys to Harmon on Sunday for some bluegills and crappies. The middle was split about 30 yards wide with a channel of open water from the dam to the first earthen fishing pier, the rest of the lake looked sketchy, but there was one pop-up out on the south west side along the trees. We did not venture out.

Sawyer,
You can get around on most lakes in the central part of the state yet. Obviously all the ridges opened up and anywhere close to that is touch and go. I guess I wouldn't go anywhere without checking again for the next few weeks. There will be a lot of variance and plenty of thin spots. It's just one of those years when you can't ever strike out without constantly checking ice.
