I was just kidding!! Pro bowlers Association/tour if you didn't know.

But yea! the iditarod. We still have one or two locals in that or have they bowed out? Will have to check into it I guess.

And if all hell breaks loose with this coronavirus, maybe we should all migrate to the mighty north.

We always cheer for Wade Marrs. My wife’s work has sponsored him the last several years and they throw a picnic each winter where he brings his dogs. Great guy. Its about to get interesting. Shaktoolik announced yesterday they will no longer be a checkpoint. So teams are changing their strategies on the fly with one less place to rest and a storm hitting the area over the next 24 hours.

These mushers that haven’t been in touch with the world since last Saturday have gotta be extremely confused! Especially when the pull into Nome and the whole town will be empty!

And if all hell breaks loose with this coronavirus, maybe we should all migrate to the mighty north.

Its a shit show here. All schools and events are shut down state wide. I ran to wal mart last night to grab red box and a snack and about 1//2 the shelves are empty. Gotta realize up here we import everything by barge (usually from Seattle) or cargo plane (usually from China). Our first case was a few days ago from a guy off an overseas cargo plane; as opposed to the lower 48 where anything people need is within a 24 hr semi load away. So it’s getting harder and harder to find what a person needs.

Sounds like this coronavirus scare will be affecting those in the great north as well. Most of the mushers have dog sled ride businesses in the summer for cruise line tourists, etc and with little to no cruise ships /tourists, their businesses will be severely impacted. With most mushers, running the races are break even at best so need the income from the tourists on the dog sled ride business. This corona virus outbreak thing is impacting persons near and far.

Iditarod update: It looks like it will be down to a dog race between 4 dog teams with Thomas Waerner of Norway on Mile 724 of 975 leading. Followed by Wade Marrs, Aaron Burmeister, and Jesse Royer. None of these mushers have won. Closest previous winner is Mitch Seavey who is currently in 6th. He is currently on mile 710. Once they reach the checkpoint at Shaktoolik at the 754, they pretty much have to travel oversea on Norton Sound of the Bering Sea for 50 miles until the next check point of Koyuk...this stretch can be a game changer depending on weather conditions...in fact, Nic Petit, who was leading last years race had his dog team quit on him during this stretch from checkpoint to check point... a couple of his dogs were getting agitated with each other and evidently he hollered at them and they quit on him...if it is one thing I have learned watching this race over the years is that the dogs sense the musher and need the assurance that their master/musher will guide them...if they sense something else..they wont run.
Stay tuned..looks like there will be a winner early morning Wednesday unless weather is an issue... signing off for now.

Well, I watched Dodge Ball last night. And I'm not even talking about the movie, it was a legit dodge ball tournament on one of the ESPN channels. Sheesh...

Update: Unless strange things happen, it appears that Thomas Waerner is headed for his first Iditarod win. He is about to checkpoint at White Mountain at mile 898 where all musher must take a mandatory 8 hr rest. Next closest musher is 3 time champ Mitch Seavey back at mile 855. Although he has had the fastest team thru the past couple of checkpoints, it doesn't appear there is enough race left for him to catch Thomas so it appears this will be a race for second amongst Mitch Seavey, Brent Sass and Jesse Royer as they are all within 3 miles of each other. Seavey was the oldest person to win the Iditarod back in 2017 when he was 57.
This race appears to have a winner in the early morning hours tomorrow(wednesday).
For those of you unfamiliar with the 1000 mile race, besides the mandatory 8 hr rest at check point in While Mountain, mushers must also take a 24hr rest at the checkpoint of their choosing and also another mandatory 8 hr rest at another checkpoint of their choosing. The first 10th place mushers or so are basically very sleep deprived as they have only been stopping to rest/feed the dogs and take a nap here and there.
