So we run a bit older ranger reata and we fish it in rough water a lot and take tons of water over the bow when trolling into the wind and decided it’s time to get a different boat but was wondering if you guys have any recommendations on a glass boat that dosent take water over the bow when trolling into the wind and if theirs a certain model or size you recommend.

Sawyer,
Nitro!! I personally run the ZV20. It’s a wave crushing machine and I haven’t taken a wave over the bow yet. Where do you fish mostly?

Lincoln, kinda...
pfft, you want something that won't take a wave over the bow in the shittiest of conditions? Get a quality aluminum boat.

Those bastages float like popcorn on the water compared to glass. :;:stirthepot

Of course, it's also why they ride so rough.

You also won't have to worry about your trolling motor staying in the water either on windy days.:crazythumb:

72” shaft fixes that issue. You just have a short shaft issue.

Went to the 72 it helped no doubt but even in a terrova the 72 is out of the water allot. I always envied boats like the bigger rangers for being able to sit there and fish under control while my 72 was out of the water half the time in bigger waves.
Now I have that control, its nice.

echo Yar-craft for the umpteenth time in this thread.......................:;:deadhorse. Can't say I have any issue with the 72" TM on my 219 popping out of the water on rough days, and it's an Ulterra so you loose about 4-6" of shaft length. I can say the 60" on my 186 would come out of the water when it was really rough out.

We had a guy with a 115hp and whatever size bass boat that would fit that motor -- 17ft -? anyway saturday -- he was up in mauve, pelly, he went all over that wind did not stop him and weighed in nice fish. I asked him after the event how was it - he said he didnt spear its all in knowing how to drive. Of course devils never gets the longs --- just boat breaker waves .

IMO - i will take a calm day any day of the week vs that brutal fkn wind. I see this week and weekend forecast shows wind all the way through.

I see Mitchell made some dough this weekend.

Yar with a 72. Fished in the Casino Saturday (finished HORRIBLE). Conditions less than ideal with 2 in the back of the boat which can bring the bow up some and had no issues with the bowmount coming out of the water. Incredible rough water ride.

Really surprised to see all the shout outs Yar-Craft is getting. I thought another sparkly boat brand was king. Are we saying that Yar-Craft is the best all around boat or are we just saying that it does a good job of keeping the nose down in waves?

I have owned most of the the big glass boat brands. Yar is the only brand I have come back to.

This about NOT taking water over the nose, not keeping the bow down. If the bow is down like some other boats, your gonna have wet feet and floors on rough days. In all fairness to the OP, the Reata's were one of the worst for scooping waves over the nose, most any other glass boat will be an improvement. Yar-craft's are are getting shout-outs because they are one of the best for not taking water over the bow or spearing waves. The sit with a bow high attitude and the noses do not dive down in the front like some others. They also extremely boyant in the front. The trade off, a 72" TM is a must as a 60" won't keep the propeller in the water on a rough day.

Got it, thanks for the explanation!
