New trolling rod ?

Just put the reel and line on and took the plastic off the cork handle. The cork is very nice and very smooth, however extremely dry. Should a person put something on it? Or just dunk it in the lake a few times. Silicone maybe or Kroil ?

Appreciate any suggestions. THX.
