Good Morning!

My dad just bough himself his first recreational boat, a 27' pontoon. Looking ahead to christmas I would like to get him some "pontoon orientated" gifts. What are your must haves on the toon?

Thanks in advance.

Is this strictly a leisure rig, or will there be fishing? If fishing does it have the fishing package?
27 is a good size, and if it’s new probably has a lot of bells and whistles already…
Will it be trailered or in a slip? You can never go wrong with a good cooler, possibly one with wheels

A damn good biffy would be first priority at that age, or any age women for that matter. If it does not already have one.

Mainly Leisure, has a biffy, it will likely be trailered as he cant stand the thought of the scum on the toons haha. He got a nice bunk trailer with it. Mom cant back up so she will be delegated to holding the rope, any good trailer or docking things out there that people have found?

Thanks

bunk trailers and pontoons suck --- you have to get them exactly lined up. I help a bud every fall - lucky the lake he is on is small and wind is generally not an issue. If your only going to pull a few miles the other type work much better. Plus with the rail type you can let it down and fit it into a garage vs. a bunk you need a tall door.

Most of those tunes have everything you ever wanted. Gas powered blender would be my choice.

some good boat guard fenders (buoys), fi he plans on fishing they make rod holders that attach to most pontoon rails, alos if he plans on fishing a good drift sock or two, I have found by back trolling, and throwing out a drift sock I can manage my speed much better, and a good anchor or two as well, probably 2 for a 27 foot

Your buddies trailer must be junk as bunk trailers are the only way to go. Get it close they have in side guides on the bunks and it drives right on. I suck at loading boats but the bunk trailer on multiple pontoons make me look like I know what I am doing.

Name the day on oahe - wind over 20 on a blown ramp and we will do a boat vs pontoon on a bunk trailer load. I will win. Now my comment is that a scissor lift is worthless as far as pulling down the road --- but it is 1000X for loading and dropping it into a normal garage. My buddy pays 125 per month to store his bunked toon. The guy next door drops the scissor and pays nothing. An observance. The scissor has more wiggle room at the boat ramp. A tri toon will not work on a scissor.

End of story.

I have a pontoon and fish with the grand kids a lot. The following has made my life much easier with kids on the boat. Bow electric trolling motor w/ remote so it can be used from driver seat. A Ultera or something similar that can be deployed remotely, is very handy. I prefer an electric anchor, again controlled from driver seat. If you fish in a wind, a second conventional anchor is a must. SNACKS!!, Lots of snacks. I do not have carpeting because of SNACKS. A toon rides much higher on a bunk trailer, but it trailers MUCH better in terms of stability. Can't get it in a conventional garage.

A big second for sea legs if you have a dock, or want to just pull up to shore. If your shore is rocky or uneven, they can be a challange.

go to swan creek any time next summer and I got a 100 you don’t load any faster than any pontoon. Just drive it on hook it up and go. It’s no different than boat bunks. My kid when he was 10 was loading the pontoon with no problem. My friend who guides had his 13 year old load the pontoon every day all summer. I don’t know what hard about driving it on bunks. It has guides that makes it impossible to mess up.

We had an old METAL 20 ft pontoon growing up. By the time I was in my 20's I could load that thing faster by myself than any boat around. Bunk trailer. Now with a Drotto latch and two guys would beat me.

Oh and I 2nd the grill, attachment. Always could use rod holders, they're not cheap...perfect gift!

I'll go ahead and nominate myself for head official. I'll even bring my whistle.
