No sense dragging this out any further , Please read the discussion in the "One tag system" before you vote on this poll.

That's part of it but I truly am interested in the numbers regardless of how many tell me I'm not.

Thanks for taking the time to contact me on an issue that is evidently of great interest to you—deer hunting. It can definitely be an issue and especially for those that have not had a deer license for a number of years. You evidently remember the statewide meetings we held about four years ago on the concept of only one deer license per hunter. It definitely stirred some interest but if you attended any of the meetings we also stated it was a social issue and not a biological one. The biological portion is one we’ve been stressing and that’s having adequate habitat to support larger numbers of deer to meet the demand of ND hunters.

The idea of a one license per hunter is still on the list of what we could do but, as you stated, it’s on the back burner. That doesn’t mean it will stay there indefinitely though. North Dakota has a history of deer hunting, which includes gun and bow. In the past 10 years, bow hunting has definitely increased in popularity—probably in part to those people that were unsuccessful in getting a gun license. If the trend continues in that direction and the deer herd declines I would say we’d have to revisit the one license concept as one option to more equitably distribute the licenses.

And you are absolutely correct in stating it would be nice to have a relatively mild winter. That would go a long way in continuing the rebound of our deer herd. Thanks again for your comments.

Wow that's refreshing to hear from Terry. It doesn't sound like they have any interest in caving to the one-tag whiners unless there is a legitimate biological reason down the road. Between Terry's response and this poll, hopefully we can put these one tag threads to rest.

Until next year of course:;:deadhorse

Like ive stated several times if you want a whitetail buck tag for gun you can draw every year if u shop around . There's units that are 100% draw or very close to it

Last time I checked, most bow hunters will rifle hunt too. Then we’re not stuck on the sidelines complaining and bitching that they didn’t get drawn again come deer season. If shooting an animal with a gun completely defines “hunting” for you, then so be it. But don’t try to write the definition for everyone else. You have every chance to take your rifle after an animal. Pound your fists on the ground when you can’t do it in your preferred unit or state. How is it the older people on this site will cry socialism yet you’re argument is clear cut socialism?

You all have every opportunity to discuss other topics yet you would rather sit and complain. I bet more problems have been solved during coffee time at the local cenex.

Literally the only reason a change was being proposed in the first place is because of whiners like you. Bow hunters just asked it remain the same if there was no biological reason for the change which G&F admitted there wasn't. Anyways I'm done with you, your either a troll or literally the most dense person i've ever come across on this sight.

Even with this response, one tag system is still BS. If archery tag pool (and harvest) begins to become excessive to the point that THERE IS BIOLOGICAL REASONING, then the archery tags need to be drawn their own lottery, just as muzzy and rifle are. The one tag concept is still flawed.

The only way its NOT flawed, if we insist on one tag, is that every hunter gets it every single year and gets to hunt with any weapon of choice until permit is filled. And now add in the wrinkle of sex/species management per unit and it becomes very interesting. You think the lottery takes a long time now?

LEAVE IT ALONE.

PS. Better yet, go help fix the problem and put some habitat in the ground.

What biological reason did the G&F give for leaving the tag system as is?

Recalling from memory here.....

our deer herd is managed by rifle tags and only the rifle tags.

bow licenses and the success rate of archers do not have an impact on rifle tags issued or the deer population at this point.
