I've done deer hides and pronghorn hides myself. Some with hair on and some with hair off. The hair on were for mounts and the hair off was just for leather.

used a couple different kits but haven't done the brain tanning. It isn't bad to do just time consuming.

speaking of which I have a couple salted hides I need to tan yet.

For the hair off, I used kits from scheels and it worked well.

for the mounts I salted, pickled, thinned the hide and neutralized and then oil it (just off the top of my head) using stuff from vandykes taxidermy supply.

For brain tanning, you can use beef or hog brain along with the brain of the animal to get a more concentrated preserving mix for the hide.
