I'm the furthest thing from a camera expert but when I did some research a few years back it led me to the Sony RX100. I have had one for a few years now and sometimes I actually hunt with it in one of my front pant cargo pocket, or often times it's in a small waist pouch on the pack hip belt. Can't say I've directly bounced it off a rock, but it has probably been abused more then your standard camera for sure. As far as I can tell the pics are good but I don't really know shit about photography either.

I shoot Canon for the sole reason it was the first DSLR that I bought and I stuck with them. I have since given away my first canon body and upgraded to a 7D Mark 2 and a 5D Mark 4. I have a half dozen lenses but the majority of my wildlife photos are taken with a Tamron 150-600 G2. It's been a great lens and given me tons of great photos but I am thinking of trying out the Canon 100-400 that SDMF mentioned.

I also agree with durability. I drug mine through the AK wilds the last couple of yrs and it only came away with some scratches and dings. The higher end camera bodies are water and dust sealed I believe. Last fall chasing sheep, I even used my kifaru pack and gun bearer to tote around my camera, lens, and tripod....worked great. With that said tho, I took my camera and lens to work a couple weeks ago to get some airshow photos. Well, they don't survive falling off a desk. I am looking at $700 plus on the camera and still don't have a quote on my lens. Go figure, they survive mountains, ocean, and all kinds of weather for me to kill it at work...

No real experience with any P&S cameras. If I am not using my Canon, it's my cellphone. Most of them have pretty decent cameras nowadays.

The best camera is the one you have with you.

I took the Twinions fishing for the first time this weekend! They had a blast and so did Mom and Dad. This morning when they woke up, they asked to go fishing!

If you want to see the badlands in full bloom and green, now is the time to get there. Drove thru both the south and north units of the park Sunday.

No matter how many times a guy goes there, it never gets old.
