Anyone know how the ice is at Douglas Bay? Want to take the wheeler off the east cabin ramp and go south past the National Guard camp.

Ziegler landing had14” last Sunday. The main lake is open. You may want to drive to gaurd camp by land.

After the weather this week it’s pretty sketchy. The back of the bay by Ziegler’s will be ok but going south of there is not good. There are open cracks and patches of open water inside the bay. You can shore fish by the west campground if you want cuz that’s wide open.

Yuck, was hoping to do some spearing down there this weekend. Cooler weather today and the next couple days though, might be ok getting around, but those open spots are going to be bad news the rest of year, not going to know where they are when they do freeze up.

Put a 2900# permanent on just south of the ramp at Zieglars landing on Monday. 13" of ice where we cut the spear hole. Pulled it on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not driving my F250 on for a few more inches!

It's good right at the landing anyway. Had 9" of ice on Christmas day and 13" now. The larger part of the bay was open water on Christmas so it will be much less ice as you go to the south and east from there.

Probably give it 2 more weeks...maybe drive to the National Guard center...good spots within walking distance from there.

Only been on Douglas bay 3 times now, but have seen fish each time. Can just see the bottom in 11' by the landing. Used a portable to the west of the landing on Christmas day and it was really limited visibility over that way then, around 5' to see a bright decoy.
