      Casting Slow-Death

I'd like to try casting a slow-death rig into the shallows this summer.

I am thinking about buying some jigs like this:
      Name: s-l500.jpg
Views: 1071

Then grinding the hook off, removing that spinner, and replacing it with a slow-death rig (rigged with a 4" Gulp Crawler).

I'm not sure if this is the best option. Any other ideas for this?
Anyone else try casting a slow-death?

Why not just use split shot in front of a swivel? I like the “bullet” split shot because it picks up less junk.

If I understand correctly, it seems you are trying to fish a slow death basically using a Carolina bass rig.

My thought would be you won't be getting much of the slow death action out of a setup like this. Probably could accomplish similar with a drop shot/carolina style bassin rig with the plastic worms with a lot less work. Be interesting to try out, but my guess would be it's not gonna work like your thinking. I am an eternal pessimist however...

Wouldn't a lindy weight do the same thing with a barrel swivel behind it? Then add a floater to the slow death rig?

I've done it with a lindy rig and shorter leader line to the slow death hook. Can occasionally cause it to tangle when casting, but it catches eyes.

Buy a pile of these. Maybe even contact him to send you a bunch with just the split ring and no hook?? I like these a lot for ice fishing, but I bet they'd work great for your application, too.

Not quite the same application as you are talking about, but I have used these before on Sak:
      https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/wall...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I have had some luck on these in deeper water doing like horizontal jigging with them. Since I despise bottom bouncers I'm always looking for an alternative haha

Peg a bullet weight to your swivel, or use a split style bullet as Ahab suggested. Skip the jigidashery hocum.

Might be really good in a "cast and swing" current area.

V check your mail LB. Bullet weight in front or a coupla split shots and should work that way. Kinda crazy you should post this right now.

Seems like a lot more work than using a bullet weight or something similar. Personally, I'd just put a bullet weight on "backwards" with a quality swivel and flouro behind it.

I'm trying to keep it as compact as possible.

As little as possible in between.
I like the look of those DanLure's, along with some of the other ideas.

A weight foreword spinner might be what you are looking for. They use them quite a bit on the great lakes for eyes and work quite well. They are easily modified. I used them in the Sheyenne when I'm after white bass in the spring and have caught many a walleye on them. Good Luck!!
