Please tell me you can see that object that he bends down to rip out of its back with his pliers..
that's certainly not a clear enough picture to determine that. And if that is a jig it could be caught in the net.

Not really sure what the speculation is, the net man specifically said he pulled the jig out of the fishes back. Never seen it in the mouth. How much clearer does it need to be?

A lot of times people will display the hook with the mount in front of the fish mouth. He should put a jig and Moxi plastic in its back so he can remember the day he caught the almost state record

I did not know about all the snagging until i actually fished the snagging hole. This was because the spot my buddy and i had found about a 1/4 mile down river was producing actively feeding fish. People were intentionally dragging 3/8oz jigs w/small plastics across the bottom and setting the hook into anything they felt. I never saw a game warden, but that also could have been due to the fact we were all by our lonesome down river. I think there should have been a game warden there from sun up to sun down with all of the big fish being caught but what do i know

How do we know last years record wasn't snagged or foul hooked? Guess we're taking his word for it. I'm sure the GNF did a thorough investigation of it.:::

Not gonna lie, if I was just an average joe walking over from the trailer park carrying my ugly stick to do some work in the snag hole there it might have been hard to let her go! ha ha
Its a lot easier when you've caught and released several bigger.

This comment is not a great look for you

How about you actually watch the video, maybe even pause it when it gets to the part where he takes the jig out. Funny you say you don't trust anybody, yet you are putting an awful lot of trust in the angler.

I saw that too Rizzo... Just didn't want to say anything... I'd hate to be labeled a jealous sparkly boat owner...

I watched it several times. I did see him scraping dirt off the fish prior to taking a picture though. Maybe that's what people think is him removing the hook. I don't know and honestly I could care less anymore. No hair out of my ass whether the record is sixteen pound of fifteen pounds lol.

that’s never been my experience - it’s often just a pinhole after removal

the snag occurred and held because it was placed in very tough tissue - that’s why it stayed hooked up in the first place

if a tear/gash occurs that means the hook is no longer capable of holding

Whoa, whoa, obviously we’ve never fished together. My rod tension is perfect. I could real in a hula hoop.
