I was a lifelong Shimano fan.

Not any more.

Too bad they China’d their quality like so many companies.

Not China, Malaysia, which is just as bad. White Shimano Stradics, made in Japan, w/the wooden knob on the handle are superior to everything available today that's <$400. I got excited once when I searched and found Japanese imported Shimano reels on Amazon. Then I looked at the pictures, Reel-Seat still says "Made in Malaysia". ::thumber:: NOT!!

Got my Symetre back in working order for now. Using 6# Suffix braid, it was getting hung up before line roller cutting a groove in the plastic making it hard to reel. Buffed it out with Dremel and good to go. May pick up a President just for a backup.
Gotta say I have never "completely" dismantled a reel before, Every piece, cleaned and lubed all necessary parts.
